5 toes
for all the lion hunters out there....just curious how often you have discovered a lion that had 5 toes. either discovered after a harvest or looking at tracks and how common it actually is or if a certain area has more than others....thanks

Seen a few with three toes, got one right now I'm mounting. Never seen one with five.

Re: 5 toes
Actually nearly every cougar has 5 toes. Yep I was corrected on that one time but what we call the killer claw up the inside of the legs was or is considered a toe of sorts but I never thought so. LOL!

Re: 5 toes
dean,
three toes would look fairly normal but five toes looks crowded or splay. my buddy stumbled on to the track while out bobcat hunting the last weekend of season in the good snow we had, you would drool over what we see in oregon and say ....yup...its a smoker lion and drive off.....maybe we can find a young computer whiz who can figure out how to post a picture of this track in the snow.

Re: 5 toes
When ever you see a double track, you usually can also see the double imprint of the main pad. If you look at this track, the LH (outside) edge of the second toe in from the left is lined up with the edge of the main pad. If what you guys are thinking, wouldn't you see another imprint of the main pad lined up with the outside edge of that pad on the far LH side. Wow, I hope that made sense, it made me dizzy typing it.
I'm assuming the guy that took this picture looked to make sure she wasn't stepping in her other track.
