Tuff Skin Antennas for DC30
Put one on 1 of my 5 collars and gave it the old distance test today, not a huge range difference but when ya have signal you have signal, not a bunch of hit and miss, lost signal with it last and picked it up first. What did bother me is that I updated 3 of 5 collars and the non-updated ones had better signal and faster pick up then the updated one's??? Anyhow I will be putting the Tuff Skins on all my collars.

Re: Tuffy Skins Antenna for DC30
I was thinking about trying one of those antennas too. I see they're longer than the 'stock' antenna, about how much longer would you say they are?
I updated 5 of my 6 collars too and the one I didn't update seems to get the best range...?

Re: Tuffy Skins Antenna for DC30
I'll be carrying these very soon, I keep having problems with garmin keeping the DC30 antenna's in stock so I'm looking for a More durable Antenna to carry. I've had one of them for a month or so now.
Hoping to have these setup in the next week or so... It's been on my List of Things to do.

Re: Tuffy Skins Antenna for DC30
We've been thinking about and dinking with this Tuff skin style antenna for a little while now, Finally think I have all the pieces and have something tested with enough confidence to sell them.
We have been selling allot of DC30 replacement Antennas lately, anyone that has recently bought a Stock antenna that would like to Trade in for these Please let me know.
I want to get them out to a few people that want to test them out..
As a Promotion
I'm selling 15 of them for those that want to test them out for me and let me know what they think.
I've had them built and I've Tested them on equipment for SWR and power Loss to make sure they are at least as good as the stock antenna's. I did see a Slightly better SWR on these antennas at the 154-156Mhz than the Stock antenna which would mean that more power leaves the antenna than is lost. (that's the Idea of SWR)
If your one of the Few that get them for 5 dollars I would like a report back on them, I will probably bug you and see how you like it.
Seams like most are selling these styles for 15-20 dollars... and have a 1 year Warranty
So after I sell the first 15 of them the Sale price will be 12 dollars, and a 2 year Replacement Warranty.
I'll add photo's soon.

I'll also Bring them to the OUSDA Convention. for those folks in Oregon.

Re: Tuffy Skins Antenna for DC30
Budd, are you still having good results after unpluging the battery? I have 2 collars. One is about 8 months old, the other is 5 months old. The newer one, from the start, always outperformed the older one. So I updated the older one to the current update, and left the newer one alone. The older one still drops quicker and picks up much later then the newer one. I can have full comm bars on the newer one and only acouple red bars on the older one. They are very different in their performance. Niether collar has been used hard or abused.Budd Denny wrote:Called Garmin and they asked if after updating collars if I set them out side and let them connect to satellite for a few minutesBudd Denny wrote:Not until I have too, also I'm calling Garmin to see what they say!!!Larry Emery wrote:Budd are you going to update your other 2 collars?, I said no. So they had me unplug the batteries for a few seconds then take it outside, turn it on and let it set for ten minutes before trying to connect it with the Astro. Took it on the same test run as before and the two collars seemed to be getting the same range on average as the rest. Hope this helps others.
I will try what they suggested.

Hey Buddy, it is very hard to order anything from your site. It always seems super bogged down and unbearably slow.Buddyw wrote:We've been thinking about and dinking with this Tuff skin style antenna for a little while now, Finally think I have all the pieces and have something tested with enough confidence to sell them.
