Post by kc »

we have lost all our snow this week, so i thought i`d run my female today. i had katie out on loan for the past 2 months, but got her back this morning. it seems like she can still get it done and i`m glad to have her back.

Hey I was kinda interested in this coyote hunting with hounds. I had a few Questions and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I live in kalispell montana and run lions now with my dogs, and we have alot of coyotes. I was wondering how many dogs a guy needs for running coyotes, if you can use one or two dogs. I was also wondering if most chases are all day a few hours or what.

Did you run her alone? Do you run strictly redbones? I run strictly running walkers and have for the last 10 years they do a great job but love the look of the redbones and wouldn't mind adding one to my pack. I dont do any tree hunting so treeing isn't a concern. the walkers I run are long and lean and when the conditions are good they really move i am a little concerned that with the build of the redbones they wouldn't keep up the pace for hours. Im sure in tough conditions they prob would out do my running dogs and could really help them out with cold tracks.

lakeviewwalker, yes i run her alone. i useally never run more than 2 hounds at a time, sometimes just one. yes, i strickly run redbones on yotes and bear, but i do have a redbone & walker for coon. as for holding up on a chase, i run mine 3-4 days a week and they keep going. they might not be a fast as some running hounds, but some they flat out beat. the way i`ve always gone about it is a hound can only run as fast as it`s nose can take him. where are you located at, if you don`t mind me asking ? i have posted a link to my hound page below, if you`d like to see a few more of my hounds. the old man on top is dead though. he died at a bay-up this year. if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 585-216-5113 matt(kc)

My redbone, outruns most tree hounds and and can run ahead of the bear pack. Ran him with my 6 month old running dogs monday and he hasnt come out of the box other than to potty 4 days later. Ran him 2 weeks ago with the big dogs and he managed on a cut to grab the coyote and get him finished with the others. If you have a coyote run straight line he will be in a different zip code in an hour, (behind) just not built to run with the running dogs. he sure sounds nice though, nothing like a slober mouthed bawl mouth to listen to, to make my day.
