All Maine Houndsmen
Guys We are under attack in Maine. There are several bill's in this springs legislative session that will severly impact hound hunting in Maine. One would seperate bait hunting from hound hunting during bear season which means we would lose two weeks.
It has been brought to my attention that the Maine Tree hound Assn. Has a few dollars left and the president is stepping down. I am asking any of you from Maine or if you run dogs in Maine to step up and get this Assn. on it's feat again. We are trying to get organized. If any of you are interested you can call or e-mail me. 207-796-5068

Re: All Maine Houndsmen
i spoke with Paul this afternoon . He will be sending some e-mails to me. Apparently the NEED right now is to increase the membership to the Maine Tree Hound Assoc . As with all groups our STRENGTH will be in Numbers that the group represent . Wether you live in Maine or just Hound hunt in Maine for $5 it is an investment in your hound hunting future. Once anything is lost as far as a seasonal basis is concerned it will be almost impossible to get it back . The same Jamucks that were behind the Bear initiative are BACK ,We beat them once we can Beat them again . If WE lose we know they will be coming after your group next .Even if you are just a Patty hunter with dogs ,or a Duck hunter PLEASE consider it .
THANKS
THANKS

Paul,
Thanks for the support on these issues. Were gathering as many members as possible and you can follow alot of it's progress on http://www.houndsofmaine.all-forum.net I went down to the meeting in Augusta last Monday and heard there arguments. The bill do to tresspassing is clearly a anti hunting sceam, hide'n behind the farmers and land owners. The up and comming bills will also be things to pay attention to.Theres going to be a workshop again Monday in Augusta and urge everyone to go.Joining a group such as the MTHA. will help with the numbers and signatures.Plus it will also show them that were take'n a stand and not going to back down on any issues. Thanks again!

Re: All Maine Houndsmen
You guys are right on track. We need to take the MTHA to the next level though. We need it to be organized, need a membership drive, a web site, a data base with e-mails sent to all members so we can swarm Augusta on any issue that affects dog's. There is alot that can be done with the MTHA and if we want to be running dogs ten years from now these things HAVE TO BE DONE!!!!
Re: All Maine Houndsmen
Paul,
Your absaulely right! Right now theres a thread dedicated to the MTHA on the site of http://www.houndsofmaine.all-forum.net It's a site where you can sign up for membership, see what being done, and what issues are being adressed. It's a start anyway.Memberships and donations are key! We've focus on getting a booth at the sportsmen show in Augusta, where hopefully memberships will grow.Being a member of this club will pull strength in numbers. To also remind everyone it's not just for Treehounds. The issues that will be lobbied against will affect all houndsmen,as well as anyone that enjoys the outdoors. These issues are'nt going away.I urge every outdoorsmen/women thats looking for a group to help fight for there sport to join. It's a small price to pay to have a group supporting your favorite sport.

Re: All Maine Houndsmen
where this club is starting from scratch again would it be better to change the name to maine dog hunters association or mdha as to apply better to the whole of us dog hunters for membership numbers ? i think people have a hard time joining something they arent personalized with. just thought id throw that ought there ,because we need all the help we can get. no disrespect to the hunters who started the mtha.
Re: All Maine Houndsmen
Kordog,
I thinks thats a great Idea!Right now I think where buisness cards and membership card have been made years ago, were just trying to get noticed again as a organization that take all hound hunting issues serious.Just use'n up all the old paperwork.Thats a great Idea to get all hound folks, Beaglers, running dogs,Bird dogs,ect...involved as well. We'll bring that issue up and see if we can change that. Thanks

Re: All Maine Houndsmen
anything to bind us together cause their braking us down for easier win tactics we have to level the playing field all we can. im worried more this time than the last time because we are a much smaller group .
Re: All Maine Houndsmen
10-4 these issues are only going to continue.Hopefully if we flood the meetings and have huge numbers of folks backing us we can keep them at bay of a while.Maybe their tactics will crumble to a organization that will stand and fight back.Theres alot of issues that have'nt even been adressed yet.One thing I do know is that there not just going to give up.A Big thanks to Skip Trask for standing his ground as much as he's done.We need others to stand up also.Good speakers that know facts!

Re: All Maine Houndsmen
Kordog : You bring up an excellent point . HOWEVER I think the MSDHA MAINE Sporting Dog Hunting Association or MSDA Maine Sporting Dog Association might be a better fit . I am NOT trying to be politically correct here . My feeling is it opens up the ORG to Duck hunters, Rabbit hunters ,Bird hunters as well as those of us that chase Bear ,coon ,Bobbers ,and Yotes . I do know a few guys that rabbitt and duck hunt but could care less about anything else hunting relatedkordog wrote:where this club is starting from scratch again would it be better to change the name to maine dog hunters association or mdha as to apply better to the whole of us dog hunters for membership numbers ? i think people have a hard time joining something they arent personalized with. just thought id throw that ought there ,because we need all the help we can get. no disrespect to the hunters who started the mtha.
Not trying to make a joke here but I don't know if as example the Rabbit hunters are organized or not . I say this in the context that I know there are " DUCKS UNLIMITED " and the "RUFFED GROUSE Society" but I don't know how active they are in Maine ..
Just seems to me that it would contribute to higher numbers with more political Clout. You have to be somewhat PC today . I actually think the term Hounds automatically is a turn off to a lot of people today and the word Hunting to a lot of non-sporting people is somewhat offensive . Lots of people have PETS Dogs those on the fence when it comes voting time may lean in our direction . It also seems to me that if the words Hunting and Hounds were NOT used it would give the ANTI's a harder time presenting their cases against DOGS . Just my 2cents worth not trying to offend anyone
Re: All Maine Houndsmen
im all for what ever works i just know that there are alot of people out there that we could use on our side ,and if by changeing the name gets them on it is a step in the right direction. i am only offended by the anti's and there agenda .we need to welcome everybodys 2 cents worth from our side of the fence cause were in this together . they get these laws into effect and you will see just how small our group will get people will get rid of their dogs when they cant find places to run plus being handed tickets all the time.then there will be no protection for the people that our left even if they have private places to hunt.cause fisk and his bunch of grazers will out number whats left substantially in the voting booth. the other hunters without dogs might want to look at that future too as they break us down and break us apart.
