Thanks for posting that.
I'm a big fan of the versatile German breeds.
Spent allot of time trying to explain the strict disciplin and natural all around hunting ability that the the real European "Versatile Hunting Dog" trials require, but it usually falls on deaf ears..

Even have an old trapper friend who's Dratar (his trap line dog) taught my little Cur dog a thing or two about caged Coons. That dam bird dog runs Coon better than most Coon hounds although her voice leaves allot to be desired. LOL

Between my Curs and GSP's there ain't much we can't hunt. A good combo to keep an old man in the field.

Thanks again.

I really enjoy the ability of a Drathaar I have a Jagd and I agree the versatile European hunting breeds are something we typically don't use to its full extent in the US. The coon hounds ran coon, the beagles rabbits, etc but the thought of a dog I could chase multiple species has been something I have been playing with. My little Jagd will hunt coon, I had her on hogs (a bit rough thought for sure she would be dead before the hunt ended) layed out a bear drag that she trailed with no problem. I don't have enough birds but this year going to see if she will retrieve doves. If you like them there is a great site called drathaarsandjagds guy in NC has outstanding dogs of both breeds.

Well said.
I amost drove to Utah last spring to pick up a nice little Jag/Airdale cross that I thought might compliment my little pack, but eventually talked myself out of it.
Wish I'd have known that one of my little Cur dogs would die shortly after I passed up the opertunity, but we all know about hind sight,,,, don't we?
Probably get another Cur or maybe a Jag if the opertunity arrises this year.
A buddy down in Nevada just called yesterday and offered me a Drahtaar from a litter he's expecting any day now, but I took a pass since I have two GSP's right now. Hope I'm not setting here next year talking about hind sight again.. LOL

Just for grins,,,, here's my old Pete Dog (GSP) teaching my Cur how to tree the resident Squirrels when she was younger.

It's not uncommon for him to tree a Squirrel and keep it up all day long. I eventually get to feeling sorry for the Squirrel and bring him in, although I have shot a few out for the Curs when they were younger just to get some fur in their mouth.
