Another House Cat

Post by Brent Sinclair »

Caught this young tom the other day.
We cut his track crossing a logging road and he went a short 250 yards to an old trailer that was used by the logging crew that he was bedded under till the hounds put him up.
We were a bit reluctant to put a collar on him due to his age,it seems the young toms pull out and we loose our collars, but movement is one of the parts of the study so we decided to add him to the project.
I'm not sure he is even a 2 yr old.
He has the makings to be a big tom should he not get into trouble and get killed by a land owner or taken by a hunter till he can mature.
139 lbs 611" ! and he still has the corpral strips on his front legs and a blueish tint in his eyes

We've got a study going here in CO. on the front range. One of the collared toms showed up in northern NM a few months ago.

Our capture permit expires April 30/11 so I'll be looking for a job myself after that!!!!
This was a 2 yr project w/ 2 winters of captures, this being the last one.
There will be a few collars that I am sure will need to be removed in the future after the lions have provided the data they are wanting, then it's complete...
It was a great learning experience and I had a chance to run alot of lions for the study but like most times all good things come to an end at some point.

I'm sure you'll line another one up in the future. i'd all most rather hunt for myself free of charge then accept what some states are paying hunters. i'm not sure how the guys here are feeding their hounds? maybe a night job.

We had a total of 13 , some we recollared and others we removed the collars. At this point 7 lions are collared..

My son works the oil patch and makes more $ in a day than I do in a week...trying to convince him if he wants to run lions this winter I'll rent him the hounds, a couple are his but guess who's been lookin after them.
Tried a job in the oil patch back in the late 70's like huntin more!!!!
