The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will host two Public Open Houses in Northern Utah on April 14 in Cache Valley and April 21 in South Ogden. Wildlife and habitat biologists from the Division's Northern Region will be on hand at these events to gather input from the public and to share their experiences in leading deer recovery efforts.
Yes they are focusing on deer it appears, however I find it may be in our best interest to have a large showing of houndsmen at this meeting. You can bet there will be plenty of talk about killing more lions so if we are not there to defend our sport no one will. I will be making the South Ogden open house, I look forward to meeting you all. Those of you who make the Cache Valley open house, if you could inform us of what goes on it would be pretty helpful!

Re: Utah Wildlife Open house
Timothy, When they first started having RAC meetings we hit every one we could drive to.Always tried to put our two cents in,helped the F and G out and their biologists out on their DNA study and gave as many honest answers to their questions as we could. Got alot of pats on the back and'' thank you for all your help''.For all the time and effort we put in there was probably another 250 guys around the state doing the same thing, busting our butts, spending our gas money cause we thought it would help. The F and G had never shown any interest towards the houndsmen before so we thought this was our chance to shine. You know what it got us? Harvest objective units, average age of our harvested lions down below 2 years of age and going from catching a lion a day to maybe catching a lion in six or eight days.About 15 or 18 years ago , before the SFW became the political force it is today , they had a field trial up Spanish Fork Canyon . It was organized by a few of the hound clubs in the state. There were guys from all over the state of Utah showed up.After the drags on saturday they had a campfire that night and there was this guy there trying to get us to back this org. he was trying to get started. He'd been to the deer guys and the elk guys but no one had really jumped on board with him yet.Well, being the bunch of fools we all were, we al signed right up.Hell ,he promised everybody he'd watch out for the houndsmens interests if we would just get behind this new group. Finally, we had a guy that was promising he go to bat for us with the DWR and get us longer pursuit seasons and maybe a few more tags! If i remember right i think that guys name was Don Peay.I think we all know what he's done for lion hunting in this state. Probably won't see me there, have't got a very good record of picking a winner.
