Spaying a female ?

Post by OO BUCK »

I have been using the search feature and have found some info but some more would be great.

Ok i have a 18 month old bluetick walker mix. She,s doing awesome on coons really super aggressive and is coming along quite well. But the bad thing is allot of people around me never have there dogs chained and there running loose allot. I dont need german shepherd bluetick pups running around.

This is my concern. I really am pleased with her right now she,s doing perfect in my eyes so far. If i get her fixed will she be less agressive? She,s mental over a caiged coon and has allot of drive and ALLOT of energy. But im afraid she will get fat and lazy and might lose interest. Thats my only problem. She,s pretty dominant over other dogs sometimes to.

I HAVE HAD MANY IN THE PAST AND PRESENTLY HAVE SEVERAL SPAYED FEMALES AND THEY WORK JUST FINE. NO PROBLEM AT ALL. THERE IS AN ADDED BENIFIT TO HAVING THEM SPAYED. REDUCES THE LIKELY HOOD OF INFECTIONS AND CANCER. ASK THE VET.

i have a female that was spayed, she is one of my more aggrisive dogs, has all heart, damn good dog to, but then i wish she wasn't spayed either, wish i could get some pups out of her, that might be something to think about, and you shouldn't have a problem with her having a pups if you keep her in a kennel, and a close eye on her and know her cycles, but then again she will loose some hunting time to, the only good thing about spaying one is you can run them year around, i would say if don't want pups out of her, go ahead but if there is a possibilty i would hold off, as for the fat part well thats cause those dogs never get hunted and have almost no heart, my female will actually quit eating once she reaches a certain weight, she is heavy but not fat by any mains, but she also gets hypothermia so i can't hunt her in the winter and in the sping it takes a week or two till i get her in shape again, but a good dog that can be run around all year you shouldn't have a problem with it.

either have a secure kennel , have her fixed,or have pups there are your choices . and i stress the secure part on the kennel dogs find a way when you think there isnt one.never underestimate those german shepards their sneaky bastards with problem solving skills.for a female dogs heat cycle the male dogs that are around will drive you nuts.my females go on lockdown in a kennel. for their cycle ,and the daisy red rider stands vigilant for any roving males that have love on their mind.

Two out of my three females are spayed and I love it that way.
For one that you dont want spayed , locking them in a horse trailor during cycles works good.

I have 8 dogs, 6 are females, of the 6, 5 of them are spayed. You will have no problems with them losing any aggression. Unless you plan on having pups out of her, get her spayed, you can hunt her year around and not have to worry about another dog getting her if you hunt with other people, if not you will have to leave her home 2 times a year for couple weeks at a time. It's an easy choice for me, you will have a no nonsense hunting dog. I'm getting my last female done in a few weeks.

I just caught this topic probably a little late. My experiance with spaying a female before she has had a litter of pups is it makes them very growly and fighty. one batch of pups will settle her down and make her more of a dog. then spay her. jmo
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.
