Tracking a DC30 with more than one Astro

Post by Neff »

Can you track the DC 30 collars with more than one astro unit? For example can I track my hunting buddies dogs and can he track my dogs?

We have done this in the past but one of my friends bought a new unit and some new collars and I cant seem to do this anymore.

Some of them are finicky when you do this. I don't know why.. I would try to mate them by plugging in the number and if that doesn't work by touching them together.

I don't know the ryme or reason but at times I've had problems getting them to link up on the second or third unit... Just keep messing with it and try it a couple different ways.. Should work.

If you have another collar that is programed with the same last digit in the ID number, that ID number will not be available. For instance if you have a collar with ID 21 you won't be able to add a collar with ID 31 without interferance. I reccomend changing the new collars ID number if you have the same number availble on both 220s.

I was gonna start this post off by sayin you folks need to use your astro's a bit more, but that would include Buddy in that group, and, well, he might still be a bit riled by the comments made by Mr. Abbott about the website so I won't start it that way, no sir I won't.
So here's the start of my post. The only time we've had this problem is when we've been unfamiliar with our astros. We regularly are running the yote hounds with upwards of 10-15 guys with astros and the only trouble we have like this is with the old fella's who still have the young fellas program thier astros or folks who just bought an astro.
We've had a bunch more folks get a foxhound or two over the years from years back when we only had two or three folks with hounds so when it comes to the astro's the hound owners each have an assisgned number 0, 11, 22, 33, 44, 5, 16, 27, 38, 49. My assigned number is 5, if I'm putting out one hound, regardless of what hound it is- it's astro number is 5, if I'm putting out two hounds it'll be one of someone that did not come that day. This has elminated much of the prehunt nonsense we had prior and about totally elminated intereference from another collar. Man did we have issues before this. So I know if were casting Marty, my and Dick's hounds were using numbers 0,11, and 44. If I'm casting two we need to let everyone know that my second number will be so and so. Everyone that has that number pre-programmed will need to delete and add it again. We only ever deal with 10 numbers that are far enough apart to eliminate interference from each other. Don't know if I explained it well, but it works darn well. Much less confusing in the field now than it was when we first started.

Big Al,
Thanks it makes perfect sense ( track ten collars, DUH ). Please remember that I own hounds and therefore I am very slow with numbers and well I guess eveything else. Ater all I am one of those one toothed cherry popping bow wow owning red necks from some little place in utah that Mr. Abbott talks about. Hell most of us cant even tell time here.

Thanks again for your help.

I understand the interference part of the equation.. I thought he may have already knew that, Normally if that's the Case by touching them together it will give you an Interference message.. So I figured that wasn't his problem..

I though He was just trying to Track 1 dog with Two hand helds.

And I've had it sometimes Not Add the DC30 to only one of the hand helds. I'll have to screw around and enter in the dog a different Way (Without changing the ID) and it will work..

I was about to post that sometimes you'll have a Dog in the Dog List that has been disabled. by (STOP TRACKING) and that causes problems with entering in a certain number..

After I just thought about how many times I mentioned Figured,, and thought.. In the answer.. It's a good thing you I'm not getting paid for thinking..

And then To take crap about a self rightous Midnight AM station DJ kicking our asses.. Wow.. I'm Diffenately loosing self esteem at record speeds.. :D

But Yes.. I think I overlooked the obvious answer to confuse him..

Neff, I hope that works for you. I had the same issue when they first came out and luckily figured it out by trial and error. Have you heard of any Bears out walking much? I went to Monticello last weekend nothing was moving but the weather was nasty.

Never had a problem with it... had several tracking the same mutts.
Best time to sort this stuff out is the day you arent hunting, get all the units, delete all dogs/collars off em all and co ordinate them at the same time.
I tape and # everything on the back of my astro(s) so there is no guess work afterwards if I have to change something one day. When the day is over I just change it right back and wha-laa no problems.

Here is the scenerio I have 4 dogs, my friend has 6 dogs and another friend has 2 dogs all of us have astro units. I was haveing trouble linking all them up on all three units as we can all track each others dogs at the same time with the exception of 2 dogs. I knew you could track only ten, I just did not understand how that all worked until I ran into the problem today. My questions have been answered and the problem is solved.

Thanks Big Al and Buddy the info was appreciated.

P.S. I hope I did not cause any problems.
