That's for certain,Mike!

Baldy reminds me sooo much of my old Derrick dog. When he opens on a track, with that long, drawn out bawl, that there's no way they can catch up to, to his always rolling on his back in the sun, as if life couldn't get any better. When we went to look at those dogs, my wife was told by his wife that Baldy was the coldest nosed dog they ever had. My wife told me that Baldy was what I was looking for, and she was dang sure right! That little Puma was the pick out of BOTH litters. My wife even chewed on me for letting her go. When I told her that my word was my word, she agreed, and chewed on me a little more!

Kiel saw something in that little girl as well. He told me from the start that I needed to really watch "that little red girl pup". If she doesn't work out, Posse, you can always send her back.

Benny, Puma is staying right here in Wyoming where she belongs. She loves to go hunting and we have been putting on the miles lately. Of course she is showing her hard headed side and has decided that she likes to find dead and eat it. YUCK!! Onza is a quick learner and if I scold him for it he listens, but not Puma! She is hard headed and will take off running with it in her mouth when I get after her. She is learning quickly I do not put up with that. Now, Bella is another story. She will not eat the dead she rather roll in it. Just as nasty! Now that I got Bella burned off of deer she has decided that rock chucks are very tempting. They chirp at her and it drives her crazy. Last 2 days she has been getting an education on ignoring them. Usually my male dogs are the hard headed ones, but today Ozzy and Onza just hunted and didn't cause any mischief like the girls did. I wish we had as many lions as we do rock chucks. I am tempted to shoot everyone I see, but then I think that would only encourage her more.

I love my hounds and it is so nice to have a nice pack of hounds again. (Thanks to you) Working with them is what I enjoy to do the most and these 4 hounds will be with me until they go or I do.

Mike, Puma is so pretty. Everyone that sees her loves her. She is the exact color of a puma. Hard to see her true color in the photos. She has a beautiful bawl mouth and an unbelievable nose. Not to mention athletic and can get around the steep ledges and rocks like no one's business. She is going to make a hell of a lion hound for sure. Just wish we had some lions in this area as they have all vanished. Makes me miss living in Sheridan. Might have to go hunt up there again when that season opens.

Ha! Ha! Well it all sounds familiar. Old Blue
boy who is Baldy's brother was out there today and we were sifting thru the country 8 dogs and me and it was a beautifil day. I mean we had a little rain shower but it was an Easter to remember and a fine horse between my knees and all them dogs working for all they are worth. Well I cross a little sand wash and right there old Blue and Benny Wayne decide life is good and time to roll on their back in the sand and enjoy. a little later Blue find an old porkupine dead and probably whiped out by a lion and he decided to eat some and the rest think they should roll in it . Well dogs are dogs, and we had a darn good day and Mad Max my 10 month old Redtick took a rock squirrel for a heck of a run thru the boudlers. Bay colt didn't buck me off so all is good. :)

BHP, she might have learned it from the little girl that raised them. The girls named her Honey. They said they called her that because of her color. Here are some pictures of the litter. I think she is the one on the left in the first pic. Keep us updated on her progress.ImageImage

Ms. Tessa, if you get tired of her (Puma, aka Honey), let me know. The girls and I had mixed feeling sending her to the windiest place on earth, this side of the Basin.  I hope she brings nothing buy smiles to your face. I can't think of a better dog, to show her the ropes, than the Oz meister. Keep posting those pics. :)

Posse,
The only thing those pups need is two or three million miles on them and a chance to smell some stinky 'ole lion tracks. I just don't believe that it's ever too soon to take them along, so long as they can make the circle.

Benny no worries there. The pups have been hunting 3 to 5 times a week with Ozzy, Bella and I we average 6 to 10 miles a day walking in rough country and they got to go on thier first lion track today. Ozzy found a nasty blown in track and Puma trailed it with him until it vanished under the wind blown snow. She stayed right with him while he searched to find where it might have gone. Bella and Onza did well on the track, but it was Ozzy and Puma that did the hard hunting. Hopefully we will get a shot at a fresher track later this week. :) Im very pleased with the pups, but it is Game On for Puma. Not bad for a 4 mo old pup. :) And anyone that knows hounds knows that anytime a dog is out doing something they are learning whether the catch it or not. :)
