I'll tell you what works best for me. First off I seal with caulking every seam, every screw hole, every gap. Then I prime the whole box I use the cheap walmart primer you can get it tinted to get close to the color your using. Then 2 coats of the cheap walmart exterior latex paint and thats it no clear needed. It last 3-6 yrs and then I repaint the box with 2 more coats.

I use the bed liner that you get at walmart. It 44 $ a gallon but that's two good coats on my box and it is 48''x48''x24'' the last box I did this on was 6 years ago with only one coat and that box was used and abused!! Still holding dogs and keeping them out of the weather. Just an idea tho

az hunter what kind of prep do you do before you roll on the bed liner? i know the line x doesnt like to stick to primer so you have to paint it before you spray it. just wondering if you think it will stick on a box that has been water sealed?

I really don't do much just sanded the metal down a little and a light sand over the ply wood but I really don't do anything and it sticks pretty good!
