Garmin Issue

Post by Huntsalittle »

I have an issue with my Garmin system and wondered if anyone else had the same problem or knew what might be the matter. I can hang two or more collars on a bush or fence within a foot of each other and walk off several yards (50 or more) and there will often be as much as 3-7 yards difference in the distance shown on the reciever. I was hunting several weeks ago and my buddy picked up two of my dogs. They were in his dogbox probably less than 2 feet apart, the arrows were stacked on top of each other, but the distance to one dog was a little over 900 yards and to the other it was well over a thousand yards???? I have only had the system for about 4 months and thought I might have set something up wrong. I have added the longer tuff skins antennas and a longer rubber ducky antenna to the reciever and am overall very well satisfied, but this distance issue bothers me some. Any explantion?

Thanks.

First I am no expert. GPS units including the collars are not pinpoint acurate meaning that on any given day they may only be acurate within as far as 50 feet or as close as a few feet, you can test that with any GPS unit. This would explain the 3 to 7 yard difference. On the issue with 900 yard versus a 1000 yards perhaps one of the collars had not updated on the unit. I would not worry to much about this. It is still quite handy to have one of these units and collars.
