Re: Plotts on dry ground
I have seen 2 registered plotts that were good dry ground lion dogs owned by the same guy. They weren't the coldest nosed, but they had enough to catch nite old track in desert conditions. Same guy had about 20 other plotts that weren't worth a darn on a dirt lion they were Dan good on bears tho. I only owned one plott,he was fine in the snow but a hitch hiker on a dirt track

Neal Reidhead and I bought some littermates back in the 80's, Some made really good bear dogs. None made what you would call lion dogs. They would catch one once in a while. John

Re: Plotts on dry ground
Orville Fletcher told me the best lion hound he ever had was a Plott.... and of course Orville caught them in any conditions and anywhere ..
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

No, cuz I don't have to comment on EVERYTHING, you are just continuing on here what you started on FaceBook, but its ok Mike, if you say you will never own a Plott, why research them other then you love to stir the pot???Orion Guide wrote:I like to research, do you not have a comment or whatZeluvaRIP69er wrote:LOL!!!! I have a plott that i've caught lions with on dry ground. I'm not a dry ground hunter though. I think with the right dog it can be done, but why try to

Re: Plotts on dry ground
Unfortunatley this one aint all about you, your the only one I know that braggs on plotts that they so great and has owned them, so it's fun to push your button. This one is actually for someone else that wants plotts. And I never said I would never own one, said I don't prefer them. Now I'm just not taking one persons word for it that a 6 month old plott can outdo any dog I have, I'm asking around. And I can definitley stir the pot without even discussing a plott!!!ZeluvaRIP69er wrote:No, cuz I don't have to comment on EVERYTHING, you are just continuing on here what you started on FaceBook, but its ok Mike, if you say you will never own a Plott, why research them other then you love to stir the pot???Orion Guide wrote:I like to research, do you not have a comment or whatZeluvaRIP69er wrote:LOL!!!! If you arent considering one now, why bother stirring anything?
Arent there better things to do than sh*t stir?
Plotts are damn good hounds.
My disclaimer is Ive never lion hunted with them, but I have bear hunted with them in NC.

Re: Plotts on dry ground
That is my point, both points actually, for one, I aint stirrin nothing so no worries, for two I looking for opinions on plotts, not just one person. and everyone says they a good bear dog, but a super bear dog doesn't make a good lion dog. And I dont see alot of real damn good dry ground guys running plotts. I've always been a walker or bluetick guy myself.
Either way if you take offense to me asking about plotts, anyone, then just dont answer, simple as that.

Re: Plotts on dry ground
Same as any other breed, some can and some can't. Know of guys runnin em in desert country and likin em just fine. Know of guys smokin bobbers with em runnin mixed packs in arid dry country and not giving any other breed they own any better of a nose. Seems the brindle dogs pop up in the dry ground videos too, one in the el gato vid if ya pay attention. Depends on the line, just like any other breed. Trick is finding it, just like any other breed. Kevin Hall's toto dog seemed to put up plenty of lions in dry arid southern Id for a lion study, and did it impressively from my understanding.

Re: Plotts on dry ground
I agree, I don't think it matters what kind of dog it is walker, bluetick, redbone, Plott, ect. It has a lot more to do with that particular line of dog. People are going to breed a dog that better suits there needs for the area that they hunt. I know people that only hunt walkers or blue's but i believe the best packs ive ever seen had quite a mix in it because when you want to catch game it doesn't matter the color of a dog as long as its getting it done to your likeing.larry wrote:Same as any other breed, some can and some can't.
