Sport Dog TEK 1.0GPS + E-Collar

Post by Gary Roberson »

I received a press release from Sport Dog about the new TEK 1.0 GPS + E-Collar. This is a product that I have been wanting for sometime. While I am a huge fan of Tritronics, was wondering why someone had not built the GPS tracking into an e-collar??? I sure would like the convenience of having to put just one collar on a dog rather than stacking them up as I do.
Has anyone seen or tested this product?
Thanks,
Gary

would also like to see a review, they say it won't be out til July, 15, but they had to have some field testers. You can order just a gps collar or a gps/shock collar. The plain gps collar and the reciever are comparable pricewise to the garmin, if they are reliable they will take a huge chunk out of garmins sales. Hopefully they will have taken a hint from all the complaints and addressed the problems that garmin refuses to.

Did some checking on the internet, here are a couple reviews by suppliers.
http://www.gundogsupply.com/sportdog-tek-review.html

http://gundog.lcsupply.com/2011/05/spor ... bAodBDZaMQ

Its pretty obvious that the guy from gundogsupply is a salesman, and really obvious that he is not a houndhunter. What I got out of the reviews was that it has a shock collar option (good but spendy), it doesn't have a map option (one of the few things garmin did right). Absolutely nothing mentioned about reliability, but then this guy raves about the Garmin so what do you expect? Has the same or shorter battery life as the garmin, about the same range as the garmin, and uses the same MURS frequency as the garmin, so there is a good chance that you will fry it with VHF/marine radios also.

Obviously they are not listening very well to the houndmens complaints about the garmin. These may be more reliable, don't know yet, but otherwise has pretty much all the faults that everybody is complaining about in the garmin.

Important News From Tri-Tronics!

Tri-Tronics has signed an agreement to be purchased by Garmin Ltd. This is really a combining of market leaders, and we hope that you’re as excited about it as we are.

As you probably know, Garmin is the pioneer in GPS dog tracking. What you may not realize is that their navigation systems are also found in airplanes, boats, cars, and many other devices, all over the world. They’ve been at it as long as just about anyone in the GPS business.

Tri-Tronics, of course, is a pioneer and market leader in its own right. Taken together, the strengths of the two companies are highly complementary, and together we believe that we can better serve the broader sporting dog market with the best products, service, and customer support.

The combination of our respective product lines will result in more choices, more innovation, and better value and service for our dealers, customers and supporters.

So as a practical matter, what does this mean for our customers, users, and supporters?

In a nutshell, it’s business as usual.

Tri-Tronics will continue to be responsible for supporting its own products just as Garmin will be for its own products. Tri-Tronics will continue to offer high quality products and stand behind them. We will continue to honor our product warranties and service products in Tucson. Our office in Tucson will remain open and your Tri-Tronics contacts will remain the same as before; the same people, phone number and email address. The current Tri-Tronics management team will stay in place through the transition period at which time a decision will be made about how the overseeing process will be handled.

We will continue to provide updates to you as developments warrant.
