Anywhere in North America
Anywhere in North America
If you could live and hunt the dogs anywhere in North America where would it be and why? Hoping to get a lot of help out of this post.

For lions, British Columbia. More Booners there than anywhere and less people.

Out my back door, although the hounds are idle for two months are lots of llions, lynx and bears, but 150 miles from the nearest town. You had better enjoy your family and you hounds.

I am going to guess Idaho.Mostly because as an outsider looking in it apears to be one of the more conservative states. I am fed up with the liberal politics here in Oregon. If we could have things like they were back in the 70s and 80s I would probably stay right here in Oregon.
Re: Anywhere in North America
Texas is great. Run cats, coons, coyotes, fox, hogs, and even chupacabras year round' with no bag limit. My family in Alaska always reminds me how long and hard winters up north are, and I always remind them of the long hot dry windy summers here in Texas. I just turned 30 and my kids are young. I would like to relocate somewhere north while my family is still young, and put down some roots where they can grow up like I did. I am asking this question on a hound forum because in my opinion anywhere a hound dogger would like to live represents the ideal setting for me. As Chilcotin points out, there needs to be a happy medium for the creature comforts. The living situation can be addressed later after I have some sort of regional target.

TomTom,
No place is perfect! But if you can put up withthe insects, reptiles and limited heat, then North Florida is the best place for a Houndsman.
#1 is the prevaling "Hound Culture" that you will find. Almost everyone has a Dog Box on their truck. While most are Deer Hunters at least they know Hounds.
Also places to hunt are readly available. Right now there are thousands of acres of National Forest land as well as HUGE Hunting Clubs on private Paper Co. Lands, that cost less than 1/4 of what a Deer Lease costs where you live. Membership in one of these gives you year round access, which along with the Common Sense State Game Laws allows a Houndsman more pleasure than can be found anywhere else that we know of!

Oddly mexico is almost perfect in some aspects while hounds aren't a cultural thing for them they are rural enough in the few areas I've been to be interested and supportive. The draw backs are all the typical mexican legal issues but if a guy had his own ranch lease or ownership where travel was limited to necessity it is a untapped area. There is trapping of all manner in some areas that hounds have to be guarded against. The more you consider it though there are strengths to many areas. But rural politics seems to be most important.

I think there are bigger issues in Mexico than Rural Politics. you could end up with a kilo of coke sewn up your ass and some floaties glued to your arms.pegleg wrote:Oddly mexico is almost perfect in some aspects while hounds aren't a cultural thing for them they are rural enough in the few areas I've been to be interested and supportive. Well you always have a choice. I am perfectly aware of mexico s drug issues and the usa's as well. I can see mexico through out most of my day. If the USA ever decides to disarm its citizens this part of the country would be hard to live in. But for hound hunting mexico has many ideal untapped areas. Remember drug runners are typically lazy except the mules and as such don't wonder the same country hounds men frequent

Not to mention the opportunity for Jaguar, a temperate winter climate and a low cost of living. As for Canada, check into the health care system, taxes and cost of living.
A perfect houndsman's world, if there is such a thing, may very well be Mexico during the cold months and some higher elevation in the U.S. during the heat.

If not Florida......
Then an Estancia in North Western Argentina! 5 different kinds of Cats to run with Hounds. Lots of Americans there. Low cost of living. Great Climate! Your dollar will stretch a long way!
If not there then get Pegleg to find you a Ranch North East of Hermosillia(sp) Mexico.
There was a fellow on here a while ago that tried to do that the right way....by marrying one. Have not heard much out of him lately (Sonoracathunter or something like that).
