Re: need help
easy,go with someone that has bear dogs.and turn your dogs in after they start the race.bears stink, the dogs will soon understand what there chaseing.if you want to hunt by youself ,get some scent or a peice of bear hide.and start making drags.

Re: need help
Grawes scents work the best, I use a lot of their products for my trap lines and theyve really got their scents down. They make their scents using glands out of animals oppose to just using a urine based scent like most others. I have found that my older dogs will actually run a drag using the Grawes scents, where they just stand on their heads not really being interested in the others. Note you can get your dogs started on others and get them running bear by the other scents, but in my opinion go with grawes. Might cost a little more but its well worth the money to me.

Josh,
I would skip all the scent stuff and just find someone to go bear hunting with. You might be able to see if your dogs will show interest and maybe track one, but that is about it.
You said that you've run coon dogs your whole life, well you know the basic rules of the game. What you will find out is if your dogs want to hang with a tougher bear. Some do, some don't. If you are ok with just running a few bear and seeing some in trees, then it won't matter. If you get serious about running bear you will find that some of the dogs won't cut it. You will also learn which ones want to work an older track that they probably didn't have to coon hunting.
Good Luck
