I have never heard the moniker "yellowjacket" applied to this bloodlines but I am very familiar with both Blaster and Cricket and their bloodlines. I believe there is a member on this board who goes by the username - "yellowjacket" -, maybe he is associated somehow.

As for Reillys YJ Cricket, I know the first five owners that she had pretty well. Two of them very well. I hunted with the dog on many occasions and it would be agreed by all that she was not a bear dog and would leave a mean bear. She was an average bobcat and lion dog. She was killed, last winter I believe, by coyotes in Oregon while bobcat hunting.

I did not hunt with Reillys Bear Blaster, but I know very well, both of the guys who owned his sire and dam, and who bred the litter - I hunted with both Josie and Annie and they were excellent dogs all the way around, on bear and cats. Those who hunted with Blaster said he was a good bear dog and lion dog. He died a couple years ago of old age/sickness.

I hunted with three or four dogs out of the litter Blaster came from - and I have owned a few dogs out of a differenty male from that litter. All were good bear dogs. I also owned a female out of Blaster which was one of my better bear dogs but, unfortunately for me, she died this spring.

This bloodlines, which has been hunted/bred locally here in north-central Idaho for twenty or more years, tends to make good bear and cat dogs. Most all of the dogs I have now go back to Josie and Annie and Tango, I have a whole kennel full of this bloodlines which I am very happy with.

yoopergat - maybe you could post the pedigree of your dog. I would be interested to see exactly what he's bred.

thanks for the responses guys. here is a little more info on caliber.

calibers mother

'pr' yj ringing echo was out of 'pr' dunlaps yj joe and 'pr' yj hot rocket

calibers dad

'pr' yj striker was out of 'pr' yellowjacket harley and 'pr' yellow jacket tracker

i dont have my copy yet of the papers but i have my photo copy of his lines. so let me see if i can do this with out making a huge mess. first hound and frist time trying to go though the papers lol

"pr" dunlaps yj joe sire pr reillys bear buster and dam pr reillys yj cricket
pr reillys bear blaster sire pr hamiltons josie whales and dam pr johnsons tango annie

pr reillys yj cricket sire pr my johny d and dam pr huddlestons yippin dixie

dam side for pr yj hot rocket out of
sire pr yellowjacket harley and dam pr yellowjacket tracker
pr yellowjacket harley out of sire pr snake river blade and dam pr snake river suzy
pr yellowjacket tracker out of sire pr reillys sage and dam pr reillys yj cricket

i hope that made some kind of sense. i really like him. hes built very big and fast. hes just getting to see his frist set of bears. once he see them he was barking hard. just have to get him going on the trailing part of it all. he also got to see a few bobcats this past season. im hoping to get him pretty straight by the end of bear season so he will be able and ready for bobcat at snow fall.

mine is from brian dunlap as well but mine was born in 04...mine is also very built unlike my other hounds that thin out when their running alot this one looks like hes on roids hes stacked full of muscles but still has some good speed....i was told mine was more of a cat dog and would leave a bear to go find a cat but i dont know i havent seen him on bears yet....i know he handles great and is very smart

thats awesome. i know mine is a good 15 lbs bigger then anyother dog we run with. i think he will be a hell of a good hound once he gets it all figured out. i got him to be a bobcat dog so im hoping that breed blood will flow when the snow hits.

how did you get your dogs started on cats? did you do lots of walking tracks and such. i know i tried a drag but nothings like being out in the woods and getting a taste of the real deal. but what did you to do? im all new to this hound stuff. i like running with other people but i would love to have a dog that i can head out by myself and get the job done.

Rather than messin with pups and stuff I found a finished dog which is the one were talking about that is yellowjacket and drove from colorado to northern idaho to get him. thats the easiest way to start catchin game sooner than later the only problem is its very expensive for a finished dog these days. otherwise it would be smart to find a local houndsman and run with him for a year or two until your dog either catches on or doesnt make the cut. my first dogs were inexperienced and after 2 very frustrating years of not catching anything i finally bought my finished dog

i am lucky enough to get to run with some guys that have the seasoned dogs. i didnt know if there was a better way or something to do in between running game. i know im getting ready and kind of excited to see the first inch of snow on the ground. ill be out hunting for cat tracks and with any luck finding one up a tree.

i did think on getting a finished dog but like you said, they dont come cheap at all. maybe one day if i still need one ill have the extra money for a nice finished cat dog.

thanks for all the info guys. pretty cool to know that others are out there have success with the same blood my dog has.
