Sport dog gps
Any one using the sportdog combo gps and shock collars?? What are they like compared to garmin and tritronics? How do the hold up??
Re: Sport dog gps
I just got mine and they work great. I have never used the Garmin so I can’t compare the two. The Sport dog only has little arrows running around on the screen but they are very accurate as to what direction the dog is going and how far away they are. I plan on taking a hand held garmin with me. Otherwise you have to know the area well. You will not know if he is getting close to a road or what creek he is on. You can set way points and start points with this system but it sends you on a compass heading you have to pick the best way to get there.
I love the fact you have the shock collar with it and can control it all on one hand held. The shock collar has so many different ways to use it I am still working on it. I love the way you can correct a dog with the shock while watching it on the screen. But if you want to beep or vibrate then shock you have to switch to the dog screen away from the tracking screen. It has been easy to use, and so far I am very pleased. I can’t wait to get to Wyoming and try it out up there next week.

Re: Sport dog gps
What kinda range ru getting on the gps and the shock collar
Re: Sport dog gps
Here at home they haven't ranged more than 400 yards. I am hoping they will test the range up in Wyoming where they can get out and cover some ground.

Bluesage what part of wyoming are u coming to? So they have not got very far out, well i would love to no if it will hold up in the hills and deep draws around here, and i would like to see the unit if you are going to be in the riverton area or close.
Re: Sport dog gps
If your going to have to carry a garmin gps with you, why not just have the garmin gps tracker? jmo
Re: Sport dog gps
I am sorry I did not see your post until I got back. We did pass through Riverton on our way back from Yellowstone to Casper. The dogs did not range far out there, strange ground I guess. I never lost signal on them even when we went up in the mountains and in some canyons. I only needed the shock when the pups decided to chase the cows on the mountain. I did not get the Garmin collars because I wanted the ability to train as well as track. Comparing the cost of buying the Garmin and several more e-collars was expensive, especially ones with the options of the TEK. Not to mention you only have one controller to keep track of, which is big for me.
Re: Sport dog gps
The collars held up well one of the pups hated it and kept rolling. I was worried about the antennae when she was upside down rolling and scratching but they were fine. They went through plenty of sage and creeks with no problem. I do need to get a screen saver for the controller. I did scratch it a little when I had it in the truck in a bag with the collars. Maybe I need to find a better way to transport them.
