my pup is 3 weeks and is already playing with a bob cat face attached to a fishing pole so they can have some resistance pull from it . cant wait to see what they turn in too when they get bigger and stronger
yes and no i have a batch of puppys on the ground that are three weeks as of today , they will be young hunters two of them wont start there hunting till they are at least a year old sold to a bear hunter , the two im keeping will start playing young so by a year they have the concept down ,but not before they know the basics sit stay heal etc . vocal and hand signals etc .

Re:
I would have to agree with this post. Most people now days want a Grnite by the time they are a year old. I have seen pups worked on cage coon to early and ruined. I have seen it to where the pup makes a heck of a coon dog at a early age and burned out by the time they are 18 months old. I always wait until they are 10 months or so old and then put them in the woods with my older dog. After 10 trees I shoot one out to them. I then will mess with turning loose cage coon.michael.magorian wrote:Don't rush the pup with live coons already. Like what was said already, let a pup be a pup. Walk the dog in the woods during the day and night, and when it gets confidence about moving through the trees and using its nose a little let it off the leash and let it adventure around. Right before you are thinking about hunting it, within a month, let that pup see and play with a live coon. There is no reason to jump into things too quick. This is the time when you can easily wreck a pup.
