Hagerman's Gascon/Plott not too shabby

Post by dirtydan »

This weekend the Hardy brothers came up here to the mountain to try their luck on some mountain hogs. One boar damn near cost them their entire pack of cur dogs. Also their catch dog wearing a cut vest and collar. This hog tore up five dogs. The hog put life threatening injuries on 3 dogs including a punctured lung, ripped throat, ripped open stomach cavities, torn tits and the poor old blackmouth took a cutter to his johnson. The cut vest off the bull dog looked like edward scissor hands was juggling with it. Cutter still made it through vest and almost got his lung too. These dogs never quit the hog until they were damn near dead. One was in shock when we found him bleeding out by an arroyo. We got them back in camp and stapled back together. Jed had to patch rooster's punctured lung with a wal mart sack and some duck tape. We all hope she pulls through and makes it. Out of seven dogs the Gascon/Plott they got from Hagerman was the only one not injured. She was in there the whole time. She is turned on already and sure gives it hell. Damn fine little hunting dog. She really impressed me for her age and if I didn't have six dogs I would try and get one too. And she is one of the coolest looking hounds I've ever seen. Real old fashioned with big long ears. Good job on the cross.

Thank you for the input Dirty Dan, it sounds like that cross worked well.
They should be about 9 or 10 months old now and I hope to hear how more of them are doing around the country. Some went to Mississippi, etc. and are being tried on about various critters.

Yes they are Stephen and they will be 10 months old the 20th.
Gretchen (the female) is out of Stephen's dogs.

Sounds like a nice hunt.

You might try some Jagd Terriers to your pack.
They are quick, small, agile, and fearless on Hogs.
And they dont get cut NEAR as much as larger dogs due to their size.

BoarHunter1,
I don't have any Jadgterriers, but I have a Patterdale.
I'm kinda wondering about crossing the Gascon on the Patterdale. I think it would be awsome.
My problem is they are both male and I don't think the Patterdale goes for kinda stuff...Moose, the Gascon doesn't care.
I've caught Moose eyeballing my mares.

DirtyDan,
If you can get a picture of her, take one please. I believe the Hardy boys must be technologically challenged.
I haven't hardly heard a peep out of them.

Hagerman, I wouldn't expect much technology from them fellers. They can make my little redneck ass look like a city slicker. I will try my best to get a picture of her posted on here this weekend.

Boarhunter, those are some cool pictures. They look like the beagles of hog hunting. It looks like they could probably make a pig dance.

I'm sorry to hear that DirtyDan.
It's tough losing a good dog regardless of the type of dog or work, but like you said, he went out doing what he was bred for and lived for.

well hell that makes her even more impressive. I thought she was a little older around 10 months old. You should try and post some pics of the littermates so everyone can see what they look like. Really old fashion houndy lookin hounds with a pretty unique brindle color. Not quite like any other brindle I've seen.
