Need to have organized competitive biggame hunts

I've heard a wise houndsmen once say "hound hunting is the most competitive sport". Now if there was some kind on organized way to get hounds to compete in an ideal playing field and let's just hypothetically say like bear hunting in an area that is large enough and home to the right concentration of bears, and could handle the amount of hunters that would be competing (Idaho's training unit 32 was used before for a similar competition), then what would these conditions be in your opinions and who would compete in such events? And if anyones serious about this topic could we get together and organize something? Like I was saying this sport is competitive, and guys talk a lot of trash ect., but I want to see more of us together so we can walk the walk and altogether cut out the B.S. Is anyone else interested? Oh and money or incentives should be an option.

Folks,

Generally speaking....the Hounds are competing against the Game that they are pursuing each time they Strike a Track!

The winner can be either the Hunted or the Hounds depending on Conditions and the abilities of each!

But a Houndsman is always the real Winner!

Competitions have pretty much ruined lots of Hound Strains and would be Houndsmen!

If you want competition, go to field trials, see how fast your dogs run.

To me hound hunting is enjoying the hounds & the outdoors. It's great to catch game & watch your dogs get better with experience. I could really careless what others are doing.

I have a hard time with the we caught crowd. The 15 guys in 10 outfits. Yea we caught 12 in 3 days. Hell there not even at half the trees. I think money & ego's have done alot of damage to all types of hunting.

Come on I know there's hound guys that are good and that would compete. Lets hear it. What would the ideal playing field be like? I have some ideas but I'm only going to share them with the men that aren't afraid to compete. SO if you don't have it in you to compete, don't respond to this post. Go to the picture section or see if there's a hound spectator section (oh, I forgot most of these topics and posts are just spectators doing what couch junkies do best).

A competition like you are talking about with wild game in the mountains would be great, but it would be impossible to be fair to all hounds/houndsmen, because every bear you run and tree while hunting is different, the only type competition that I could see that would be fair to all hounds entered would be a Field trial type bear race with all dogs running the same track at the same time or a time trial type of a drag on the same track for it to be fair for all hounds running.

Well old man, if you are serious about this and want to compete we need to get into the playing field(rules, time limit judging ect). Don't worry about my dogs and I until we compete. Results will speak for themselves. Yes, I will be in the competition.

I'm sure this could be done in Utah during a general pursuit season. I know of some great areas in western Idaho that are ideal but I'm sure the La Sal's or San Juan or the Books would work in Utah. And it's no problem getting an out of state hound permit in Utah. I wish we could work something out here in Idaho. But like I said there will have to be a time limit and proper judging ect. I would love to hear input on these things. Also the Judging criteria. In my opinion I would say not only treed bears but bayed bears would also be on the point system. And actually a bayed bear will have its own critiria to meet in order to gain points. Digital cameras which would have assigned SIM cards could be used to judge and show all evidence. Hunters would have to follow ethics much more as certain parts would have to be recorded.

When I was a 12 years old and just started bear hunting in 1993 our local club had a yearly buddy hunt for bear. It was a fun event and lots of guys got in on it. Every one put there names into a hat and drew random partners so going in on the buddy hunt you had no idea who you were going to hunt with. The hunt was for two days and the biggest bear weighed in won.
For me that would be the exstent of comp bear hunting. Anything more than that would end up being a huge pissing match. JMO

It wont work as tracks, terain, and bears with nike shoes on to many things whould be different.
