It was well known that John Monroe was a top breeder and the first Finley River dog I owned back in the 70's (FR Joe, FR Kate) was not what I would consider a big game hound w/cold nose, real slow but sure, but I did see some that made top big game hounds w/cold noses, I think there are cold nosed hounds of most all breeds if someone knows how to get it and keep it, but as you know takes more than nose, there is alot goes into breeding hounds, sounds like you know about hounds, if you don't mind what are you breeding and raising? hope you boys don't mind me chimin in I'm new to this, maybe I can learn something, like Tim's opinion too keep it up. thanks.
I have hunted a few over the years and like I said, I even tried to get some real close stuff by calling and talking to Lonnie. I dont' recall what the breeding was of the dogs that I have ran just that they went back to some "Good Finley River bred dogs" and I agree there was nothing that would be concidered super close but some were line bred. I can't remember any of them to be culls but nothing that I like in a dog ( or I would be running them ).
I kind of know where you are going with this Question but I am running Bozo bred dogs that are working for me. One of the few Walker lines that has the fewest Finley River dogs in it. It is hard to look at any walker breeding that doesn't go back to Finley River dogs and alot of them. But looking at a 7 gereration pedigree of one of my dogs it has Mears Finley River Sonny in it once and that is the only Finley River dog in it. And that is on the 7th.
Once agian , I am sure there are some good ones out there, I have just never had the pleasure of hunting with one of them . Devin
