Mr Jonet my cameron came from eric milligan in utah and he is gritty sob when on bear but my kids crawl all over him when we are hunting even try riding him there is no ill in him and most people talk shit because they did not love the hunt as much as Del Cameron or they would take more pictures of them so called bear they tree that we never see and maybe even write a book on them badass dogs everyone is after of theirs come on up and hunt in brush you cant see four feet ahead of yourself in and we will see how ballsy some of them collies are and oh ya them black eyed little plotts almost had me sucked in a few times who knows maybe someday mr jonet and thanks for asking and not bashing

I usually cruise this site and get a good chuckle, but because my name was thrown in i thought i should respond. In Eric Muff's defense i will explain a little further what he was getting at.....I am an outfitter in British Columbia and get to hunt the dogs alot which makes it easier to get a good pack of dogs. 3 months in the spring with the bears and 3months in the winter running cougar, lynx and bobcat. the same dogs are out every time. With the help of the GPS system, when we start the track early in the day, we catch the bear or cat....no excuses .I run with Joe Conroy and Eric Muff and we have the same line of hound and when we run we expect the dogs to produce with or without a client. over the years we have run and bred this line and they do catch everytime. I know alot of readers will say BS about catchin everytime and heck before this line 15yrs ago i said the same thing and was happy catching 50%....

Speaking of a good chuckle...... you saying "EVERYTIME" is freaking hilarious  !

If your really telling us that EVERYTIME you've turned loose on any givin critters track that you end up catching it, I won't call BS, because you're living in a FANTASY (or your on really good drugs, or you think we are on them).

Good hunting and I hope you keep your "EVERYTIME" streak alive.....

Marty, I'm glad you guys have good hounds and wish I could hunt as much as you guys. I've seen a few exceptional hounds and, unfortunately a LOT of $h!t eaters.

But come on, you claiming EVERYTIME is just ridiculous........

Man Eric it sounds like you guys got it by the ass, I might have to shoot all this Jeff Allen, Dan Lay, Bart Lancaster crap
I got if your puttin up every bear and bobber you put on :o
All
Kidding aside I respect what you guys got goin on, sounds like it's working! I'd love a chance to put my best with yours to see what we can come up with......mind ya I'm more into Cold trailin lions and jumpin small cats then chasin them stinkin bear.

Good huntin fellas,
The fascination of hunting cougar with hounds lies in the discovery and unravelling of a complicated trail, watching an honest hound strike out on a track that has been found and read, and finally bringing the animal to bay so that you can see it for yourself---Jerry A. Lewis

Well i'd like to say thanks to dula i will check that book. Shawn Cole are those recent pictures? To cold here for the bears and our season is done now for awhile, where you hunting.
I don't understand when guys just go ahead to argue without a question to a persons reply, now i don't no Marty or even a guy that lives in British Columbia or the breed of dogs that he hunts but i do no 1 thing i no what he talks of now the 100% that maybe a little far out there unless Marty you don,t deal with mother nature, that number is impossible. But yes i can read between the lines and believe he is hunting excelant hounds.
I am not saying any names or breeds here but some times guy our set in there ways and have it stuck in there head the dogs they are hunting are the best and perfect,i've hunted with guys like that and had to listen to them brag there dogs up where my dogs clearly out performed there dogs for days in a row, and still had to listen to them make up excuses what is wrong with there dog that given day,it is B.S. the fact is they don't no any better and is stuck in there head there hounds are hunting for them and there not i wouldn't even feed there dam dogs.
What im getting at is when we tell other hunter how our dogs did and get the "no way" "don't believe you" non sense until they see it with there own eyes. I would say my brother and i have some of the finest Plots around the area and always have great sucess not quite a 100% but close and welcome anyone to come on over to hunt.
I no some guys blow smoke out of there a-s but not all guys do!

Holy cow this is getting way off topic from what i posted . What iam getting at here guys is know matter the breed of hound it is if the man/women or who ever are happy with what they have then i think as adults we should not bad mouth anybody on what they like or dislike in hounds.

hances are you don't even know what I'm talking about.

Guys you hear about on here.Joe Conroy,Marty Lightburn, myself
we want to chatch em all and pretty much do.

Bears, bob's,lion's they are caught no excuses,
Well one thing is for sure, I NEED whatever it is you guys are smoking. My world would be a lot more tolerable place.

You guys probably have great dogs, better than anything I've ever had, will have or have seen. But you ain't catching 100% of the tracks you find or try. If it's a catcheable track well then by definition you catch it. If it's a runnable track, well then your odds just went down.

I'm just a hunyuck from WI, but from my experience to catch bear, lion, and bobcats you're going to have competing objectives in the dogs that work against each other when you switch what game you're trying to catch. Trail dogs sometimes don't want to pick their head up and run, some fast dogs don't want to slow down and grind a track, some cat dogs with smarts don't want to wade in on tough bear. I haven't seen it all or even close, but I've yet to see/hear of someone catching 100% on bobcats in crusted up snow or massive blowdown/tornado areas. Or lions with frozen then melted out south slopes. Or bear in roadless, water up to your nuts, alder brush infested hell holes. And if you're hunting 5-7 days a week year round, you're going to encounter conditions that make it damn tough or tougher to catch.

This is pretty interesting reading. To the men that are catching them all, Be thankfull while you have them, They will die. Any houndman is a breath away from starting over. Good luck to you all! JMHO Never brag on a pack or a dog, Just be thankful that you were priveledged enough to be able to hunt them while they are here. Great hounds and great packs of hounds are as scarce as good people.

Marty,

My response was to Eric Muff and I wasn't putting him down for having a dam good pack of dogs. In fact like most of the people on BGH we would all like to have his culls. I was simply saying as a non professional, which I belive Eric is, his drive for perfection gets in his way of enjoying hunting. Or at least that is the way his comments read out to me. OH and his comment of "Chances are you don't even know what I am talking about".... sits a little hard. What he does not realize is that most of us do understand what he is saying and have for many reasons not taken his path to hound hunting.

If you are in the guide business or a professional hunter I would think you would need two packs of such high caliber dogs and spend 6 days out of 7 hunting with clinets' That's how you make your living while the rest of us hunt as much as we can wheather it is only on a weekend or more depending on work, wife and life in general.

We all love our hounds and listening to the music they give us, our friendships with other hunters and kidding back and forth about whose dogs are better and just being out in nature after a long hard work week.

Oh yea and if you or Eric have one of those 85% tree dogs that you thinking about getting rid of then you might send a post to me or many others on this site who would love to get such a poor dog as that....
