I doubt that anything I know will help. Blue Rice was Roland's father. Roland ended up with the family ranch, which is next door to the Shelleys' ranch. Blue Rice had some fine dogs that could compare to anyone's. Roland kept that line for years, but the call of big money finally got to him, and he sold the ranch. At that time, as far as I know, he quit messing with the hounds as well. The Rice dogs that I have been exposed to were built just like Terrell's dogs. Because of the close proximity to each other, and the similar confirmations, I just figured they were more or less the same dogs. Both bunches of dogs should also go back to the Lee Brothers. Terrell still maintains his line, and he would know for sure about the Rice dogs. Did the Rice dogs in TX get there through Dickerson?
"What I really need is a system that when I push a button it will shock that dog there, when I push this other button I can shock the other dog over there, and a button that I can push to shock all twenty dogs at the same time!" - Clell Lee

you can call him yourself his name is roland not rawlin rice he called me 3 night ago inquire about a dog. we hunted a couple of times together when i was growing up in our home area.and old blue rice probably sold dogs to the lee brothers not the other way around . The same way my grand dad did in the 40's they bought alot of dogs from the old time lion hunters in that day to get started i have black and white photos and telegrams they wrote to my grand dad about buying dogs. and one photo in paticular were they came hunting to try and bought some dogs. Now back to roland he still has one old dog and a pup i raised and a young dog he got somewere else i told him i would come down this winter and we will hunt together and get the young ones going again. He still loves lion hunting and is a great man and knows what he is doing when it comes to lion and horses and cattle and believe it or not bear too. He will tell you what you are wanting to find out Oh and rolands mom Blue's whife could bake some darn good cookies too and that was home made not out of a betty crocker box his ph# is 575 535 2041

realdog, thanks for sharing your story. It is nice to hear about some of the old timers of old and another side of the Lee story.

I did listen to all of them. It was fun listening to it come from Dale's mouth himself instead of all the B.S. stories that are told on here. Thanks again.
