Boone Shockley passes away

My grandfather herman (Boone) Shockley passed away in the early hours of the morning November 3,2011 at his home in Mt.Aukum Ca. he was 84 years old. He was my best friend and my hero I will spend a life time missing him. I would like to thank anyone who hunted with him and shared what made him happiest and the women who take/took care of us.

My condolences, I remember visiting with Boone at Elk Creek several times many years back.

Also my condolances. A sad day in the hound hunting world for sure. Many a good hounds run the mountains of the west with his blood running through their veins. I know of several houndsmen in Ca. that won't mess with a hound that isn't out of his breeding.

Don't you know that the few critters that escaped him better watch their back side now! Round two and he's listening to the music from the highest point and running again with his best dogs. May Mr. Shockley Rest In Peace.

I agree Shorty. Although i never met Boone myself our mutual friend Steve had a lot of good things to say about him and his hounds. RIP Boone!!

Ill never forget the first time i hunted with boon , he looked at us over his coffee cup and said " I hope you boys are ready to work today" , he treed 3 bears that day and had started a 4th but we ran out of daylight and we were exausted ,He fed us and put us up at his place that night. Although i only knew boon for a short time i can honestly say he had the best hounds i have ever hunted behind and his kindness and hospitality were unmatched.

Gary, I'm sure sorry to hear this, I know I'll miss him in the woods. I first met ole Boone when I lived in River Pines 25 years ago and we've hunted around one another ever since then, he will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Mike

thanks to all for taking the time to share your thoughts. i agree with all he was a great man and i'm pleased to know it wasn'st just because he was my grandpa, it gives me great pride to say he's my grandfather. i have to say i took the dogs out sat. i live to hunt but must admit bear weren't the thing missing i was a passenger instead of having one, no stories of days ago, no familar voice over the radio, and no onee to tell the story of the day with when i got home. Aside from my hunt i agree it was sat. and he has all his best dogs and wasn't letting any get away. Lol 3 in a day and exsausted if you could imagine i'm in pretty good shape after fallow him for 34 yrs. God bless Fannie Shockley for opening heart and home to all my papas friends something i'm sure will never change. Thanks again for sharing. I have to say me and Jesus are still working the kinks out but i assure you my dogs will be in the woods, i'll taking them out sun. with my son who is 9 now i'll do my best to honor him by passing his words of wisdom on to my children and running Shockley hounds.

I would like to start off by saying nothing will change and yes fannie has one of the biggest hearts on earth.She will have some hunters stay there this year. I talked to her on the phone the other night and she did not want us to stop coming up there. That was not even in my thoughts.

But papa will be missed!!!!He got me my first bear 18 years ago and every year since then i have came up and went hunting.I remember him asking me when i went to get a dog why do you want to buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.He has helped me through some rough times when i was loosing patience with my dog.He had alot of knowledge on hunting.HELL HE FORGOT MORE THAN I WILL EVER KNOW ABOUT DOGS..Yes it is a big loss in hearts here also. But he is looking down saying these boys need to do this and that to get these bears.You know opening weekend when we went out this year and he was not with us? Both of us felt a empty spot in our hunting company.. I will always remember him he is a good respectful man.

There was sometime i would get lost up there and you could describe where you were at and that guy would come on the radio and tell you were you are and tell you how to get straight to where he wanted you at.

Well my thoughts are with the whole family and they will not be forgotten.
Saturday is going to be silence in the woods.

you know how papa could answer a question with just a few wise words or even buy saying nothing at all, i'm going to mimic that now, there is not near enough room or time to say all the things i could say to you. but thank you for the good times past and future.

We got in the truck after that and i looked at josh and said he did it now and he goes what i said we are walking today. He just laughed until he found out that he put us to the test.

And yes there is plenty of future hunting.

this was taken after the long run with dogs and bear!!!!
I remember him saying what dogs are there they have been on this bear 7 and half hours and treed 4 times but he would not stayed treed! You remember that one real well i bet.
Out of all the dogs that were released 1 of mine, 1 of joshes , and 1 of Jrs and of course the 3 of his. Made it.

im posting this on my boyfriends page. i want to thank everyone who made it to Boones service or took time to share on here. Boone sure did have some good friends it was my pleasure meeting you all, i have to say i met Shorty Martin there, what a caracter i wanted to put him in my pocket and take him home with me.gary went hunting sun. he had a pretty good day but was still a little sad. time will help this he is a great hunter he had a great mentor. i know it will never be the same but i can't wait for him to be able to really enjoy it agian. i also know hes not the only one whos having a hard time so stick together make Boone proud. thank you all again. ronny
