your dogs have a real taste for them now even with the shocking system your going to have your work cut out for you,but it is your best option other than walking out of the woods with just collars.you must be doing all the quill pulling yourself cause vet bills would more than pay for a shocking system.some dogs are to ignorant to give them up ive seen 4 that were culled for it .the shocking system is good for more than just trash breaking .the porkys will blind or kill your dogs eventually from infection or quills traveling around through them.i went through the porcupine thing two days in a row ,and i can tell you those dogs never ran one again when i was done with them they would give one a wide birth .i shocked them ,and wasnt very nice pulling the quills then i whipped them too ,also any roadkills were showed to them ,and they were shocked.. it was very un pleasant for them to say the least .now im raising pups and will have to do it all again .id rather be real hard on them once then have to get after them all the time . after all its supposed to be fun for you and the dogs not an agravating mess everytime you cut them loose. a shocking system saves alot of dogs lives in more than one way.

Well it sounds like their gamey enough :) , but your gonna need to knock some of that out of them if there going to make good trainable hounds for you. Before I got e-collars, I carried a good long leash, enough couplers to clip them all up at once and a cattle prod. Next time they do you wrong(trashing) clip them all together find a good branch and pull them up while Giving them hell with the prod. If you catch them everytime for the next 3-4 times they trash, I would hope they start to think before they trash on you. If that dosent slow them down I would consider seperating them or culling the most problem dog. Keep in mind dealing with this problem is going to teach you a hell of a lot about dogs and critters, I respect that your willing to take it on old school. good luck. John.

It sounds like these 3 dogs aren't worth anything the way they are, so you don't have to worry about ruining them. Make up your mind that this behavior is going to stop as of right now and then follow through to make it so.
And a switch is a joke.
Listen to Warner5. Start there and move on until they learn the message you will no longer tolarate them hunting trash.
If they are too stupid or hardheaded to get the message you are sending, start over with better prospects.

Ever thought about singling them out.You may have one amping the others up on trash.I run mine solo till i know each dog.Shock collar is definately a good idea.Mine learn what no means. They put their nose in a trash track, they hear NO.They dont leave it, I tone then shock. Most important part single them out.Good luck.

hey guys. following up on everything. we purposely went to a place with tons of skunks and porcs to trashbreak. I brought four foot fiberglass pig show sticks. I was lucky enough to catch up to my plott and walker stretching out a skunk and whopped some butt mid stretch. An hour later they had their heads in a hole. I verified that it was a skunk and whipped some butt. Ten minutes later they killed a porc. Got dead porc and whoppped em next to it. We called it a night and kenneled them for the week. Last night we roaded them down the river roads. We drove the quads past two porcs in the middle of the road and the dogs ran around them as if they were just an obstacle. No skunk strikes even though in some spots I could even smell where they crossed the road. To end the night, they caught a big boar on the ground in a corn field and fought it to death. With lots of praise, my dogs actually looked happy at the end of a hunt, instead of beat down and full of quills. Thank you to everybody for your advice. :beer

I dont own any e-collars and was wondering if there was a way around purchasing them. We come in every time with green switches and scolding while they are chewing on them but it seems to get us no where. Now, they kill it and run from us because they know they are in trouble.. I know they know better because if they catch a coon or cat they wait for us with tails wagging. WTF? :( I was thinking maybe I should just run one or two dogs so I can concentrate on not so many. They have consistentently caught three or for skunks or porcs a night :evil: ... And got quilled 10+ times each. WHAT TO DO?? :?:

e-collar would do it but ever time you shock a hound i beleive you take hunt out of them. There are other ways that work and you dont have to lay a hand on them. Breaking scent works if used rite, My self i would live trap the off game you dont want them bothering with in reason, And let them live with them in seperate pens next to each other or build a dog box with a pen over it. Just think of eating pizza three times a day for a month straight. Your not going to be in a hurry to eat pizza on the 31st day mind over matter they get sick of it and wont bother it i swear by this methed. 315-955-2457 any quistions;

When I am coon hunting and my dogs trash I shock them while they are stretching it, then I beat them all the way to the truck and then they are done hunting for the night.
I would do this with bear also but it is just to far of a drive to not keep hunting. Coons I just hunt on the farm.
If I dont hunt them for a whole week after they trashed then they will still trash on the first animal they can find do to all thier pent up energy. If I just wait a day or two then they are fine the next time I take them out.
Sounds like you might have it handled for the moment.

Good luck!

Carbon Disulfide Is a seed treatment MR. John Wick explains it in The Tree Dog Encyclopedia. like John said your dog will hunt the truck.
You can get it at the grain elevator sometimes.
If you get a chance read MR WICKS BOOKS

Their a life time of knowledge.
its just to much fun.
