gettin a hound used to huntin as a pack

Post by perky »

hey i got a treeing walker. and my uncle has a tag for washington to hunt cougar er however it works. anyways we took the dogs out to make sure they still knew what they were doin. we cut a track turned the dogs loose (bout 10) then my dog was next and he ran the track 30 er so yards then came back. we treed it, we walked my dog diesal to the tree and he just acted scared shitless from that many dogs. he was showing interest on the tree cuz the scent but wouldn't tree. he has trailed and treed game by himself er with little help so he knows whats goin. he is only used to huntin with 2 other hounds when hunting coon. he is extremely independent too. so what can i do to get him used to hunting as a pack. i'm still working on finishin him out hes still just a started dog. this is his first season. he's strikes from top o the dog box great, finds where the coon cross's great, real loud bawl mouth when trailing, and tree's real hard. any tips would be great.

Keep hunting him with the bigger pack. He should get used to it.

Also keep in mind if your hunting 10 dogs on lion in the snow he will not really learn anything. To many dogs and they trample out the track.

put him down first and let him get it started . if he needs some help give him 1 or 2 more good dogs to get it going. once they get it lined out turn the rest in . he should do fine . i have seen dogs that if they started the track they shined and if they didnt start it and got turned in after just looked average. i have also seen dogs that it didnt matter if they were turned in 20 min behind they would be in front in 5 min. jmo he dosnt trust the other dogs but he is out there with a nose full of the scent he wont care about the rest of the dogs
