Dog Box insulation.

Post by Unreal_tk »

Ok here's the deal. Im looking into building a sled pull box. I want to get a full alum box. But do I need to have this box lined with plywood or carpet to help keep the dogs warm? I plan on using straw as bedding. I also need ideas of how big the box measurements for two med to large hounds. I have the idea how I want it to be built already. I am open to ideas on both subjects.

Thanks

I have an aluminum box for pulling behind my sled and all I use for warmth is pine or cedar shavings. I just fill it as full as possible and the dogs always seem happy to get in after a long run in that deep snow

You can go to Home Cheapo and get a piece of foam board and throw that down on the bottom of the box then put straw or shavings over that.

best floor liner is a cordura "pillow" with a couple of inches of foam inside it. they come in various sizes. the thinner ones don't offer much bump absorption. in extreme temps i run a 12v heat pad in the box as well as a thermal cover over the box. two 70 lb hounds will fit just right in a 32x22x28 box, squeeze three in if they are smaller sized. if they have too much room they will get jostled around more. ventilation is something important to consider, aswell.
