which box

I need a new box, i'm thinking about the wildlife 1000 or one of the quick track boxes. give me some thoughts and opinions. if there is somthing you think is better let me know. i use 217 my buddy uses 216 it would be nice to help him look for dogs somtimes. also if anybody knows of somthing for sale at a decent price let me know.

Yup go with a Marshall Stealth, it will beat the heck out of both those boxes you are concidering

Bearbait06...just my opinion...been using telemetry since its early days.
Since about 1979 or 1980. Been around lots of different receivers. Got to say, the new Quick Track 600M with the internal amp is the most powerful receiver I have ever seen operate (using Quick Track collars).

Honestly... I have not tried Marshal or seen one used, but for sure the Quick Track 600M is very well built, only uses a 9 volt battery you can change in 15 or 20 seconds...and you can hook a Wildlife Mini antenna to it if you want an easy-to-carry receiver in the woods...it perfoms great with the mini. Wick's sells a case for the receiver that'll fit on your belt
(with mini antenna installed.

I and about 10 other guys I hunt with seem to not have any problem finding our dogs with them. We all must just be lucky.

Seen the 1000, and Quick Track boxes both in action. They are both real nice setups. Never seen a Marshall but have heard they are real nice. I'd find a way to try a few of them at the same time and see which one you like the best.

All I know is there have been LOTS of dogs found with the 1000.

I guess everyone has their own opinion. My hunting partner has been running dogs for a long time and tried about all of them.

All I've ever owned was the Wildlife TRX 1000. My partner has tried Marshall, tried about all of the popular models out there.

He recently sold his and bought the TRX 1000. I asked him why and he told me that he didn't see much difference in the boxes until the dogs got quite a ways off or in a real hard spot to track.

Then he said it seems like my TRX 1000 could always get a signal where he couldn't. So he switched.

So I can't say which is best, but I will tell you that nobody is going to "out track" you if you're using a TRX 1000. I've hunted with a bunch of guys, and all the different boxes and never once had anyone get a signal on the dogs when I couldn't get one with the 1000.

But you'll probably be happy no matter which way you go. The TRX 1000 isn't the most portable and kind of a pain to haul anywhere away from the truck. That's the only thing I don't like about mine. But for tracking I'd put it up against any box on the market.

Here's the point. In mountains, where bearbait hunts the tracker is NOT as accurate as a wildlife ect..... It takes sometime to figure out the trackers quirks.

Just my opinion but I would stay away from the Innotek stuff. I have a couple of buddys who bought them and I really don't like them. You get what you pay for is my take on things. They look good when you look at the price tag but it goes down hill from there!

My opinion of course.

I use a Wildlife TRX10.

I've had to do way more triangulation with my Wildlife 64 than I've ever had to do with my tracker. We don't have the mountains some of you do, but we got " Mounthills" The only time we got twisted up is when our hound took a yote 12 miles away. We never dreamed he had gone that far and the faint signal we got if we had followed we'd have been ok, but we kept thinking the hound had to be in the valley we got the faint signal from, maybe in a cave, etc. The tracker didn't fail us we failed it.

Mr. Pacojack once called me from the Rockies to say he pulled his Marshall equipement out and just wanted to let me know my collar in my basement in Pennsylvania was on.

I am not an expert. But I have the R410 box I bought from Johnson. It seems to work good and can pick up 216, 217, 218, 219. I have had good luck so far.

I think the biggest thing with all these boxes is the guy holding the antenna.

Best thing to do is LEARN HOW TO USE the box you are tracking with. I mean really learn how to use it. Wick has a little pamphlet on how to use them, I think others do to.

But there are some differences. My buddy had a Wildlife 64 and my 1000 seemed to track circles around it. Don't know if it was him or the box.

Another buddy owned a Marshall and said it was the biggest piece of junk he's ever owned. But I know lots of others that swear by 'em.

I would say buy a reputable brand and then most importantly LEARN HOW TO USE IT.

Don't want to step on any toes here, but if you see a guy standing in the road with his box blaring, BEEP BEEP BEEP ... he'll be awhile finding his dogs.

The guy standing in the road with the box right up to his ear and you can't hear anything, that guy will find his dogs and be in camp while the other guy is still waiving his antenna around in circles, "That dang dog is all around me."

Learning to use the equipment is every bit as crucial as what you buy.
Lots of dogs have been gathered by all these boxes mentioned.

Well I agree w/ Dawg but I would say TRX2000. I've got one in .217 & .219. Your case .216 & .217. Best box made hands down for across the board conditions. Tracker is just about useless here in these mtns. Hard to keep up w/ the coondogs w/ one. Not very portable but would still be my choice if one box was all I would own. I have a MN-10 by F.&L. its the same as the quick track MN-10. Great box and alot more portable but its only about half the wildlife box when range counts and for big game hunting range counts. My buddy has got one of the QuickTrack scanner boxes and it will track any collar made but I hate it. I can't find anything with it. Hes used to running around with it and triangulating. I'm used to the wildlife box and if you turn it down till you got one signal one diredtion and the meter hits best there then thats usually it. Wildlife box for sure w/ 16,000 hr. Johnson collars, they've been tested and tried.
