CALIFORNIA ROAD CLOSURES

Post by BOSS HOG »

was at the local houndsman meeting last night and recieved a copy of the road closure maps, or as they call them (travel management maps) after reading the literature and looking at the actual roads that will be closed i am absoutly disgusted. I don't think anyone really realized how bad this is. Every single road that i hunt is closed, actually every single road that doesn't lead to someones private property is closed from December 15 to April 15. We have lost 10 days of our bear season , 75 days of fox hunting, 74 days of bobcat hunting, and 106 days of coon hunting

"violators of 36 cfr 261.13 are subject to a fine of up to $5000, imprisonment for up to 6 months , or both (18u.s.c. 3571(e)). this prohibition applies regardless of the presence or absence of signs"

This is a classic example of a government agency making their own laws with total disregard to the people.
Im not shure what can be done about it at this point , but we all need to put our differences aside and stand together or i doubt anything will change

yea were all just gonna say f#@k it and come hunt with you  jk

but seriously getting out and walking is not the problem, its the fact that they took away our right to use our own forest and kept it all quiet until it was all said and done

Sooooo...what are you going to do about it????????
We are trying to get something done here on our forest to stop this shit...hope you guys will start too. It's never too late, but things will never change unless you make it happen. At the very least you need to meet with your county supervisors and explain to them what the implications of all this is...chances are they had the wool pulled over thier eyes by the feds as well. You have to start somewhere, the feds don't care about the public so you need to try local government and get them involved as they are the true shareholders in this issue anyway.

I know down here it's SPI that locks up all the roads, even when we have natl. forest behind their gates. Is there a lawyer out there? We all need to get on the band wagon, hunters and anyone else that enjoys the use of OUR public lands and make them quit locking us out......... Who will get the ball rolling? I'll help in any way I can, let's do this.

@ liz odell I have probably done more to fight this than anyone you know, as far as what i plan to do next , I will not post on this website for obvious reasons. Im not shure what your trying to get done but the dec 15th closure date is state wide and from what we were told every forest in ca has road closures to some extent if not all, good luck with whatever your up to i sincerely hope it works.

@ meagain the maps are suppose to be available at any forest service station , and the only hound club that i know of in your area is Modesto houndsmen their next meeting is Wednesday January 4 2012 at jenny's restaurant in Ceres CA @ 7pm

Boss Hog someone is giving you the wrong info., this policy is nation wide on a Forest by Forest policy...each individual forest has been directed by the WO to institute a Travel Management Plan.
So each forest can decide how restrictive they want to be, this forest here has only enacted seasonal closures on a few roads, some other forests have enacted seasonal closures on the whole forest.
I posted an article from CORVA on here a month or 2 ago, if you want to find some groups to help, find it and read it...not too many people paid attention when I posted it. Here are some groups to help CORVA, Blue Ribbon Coalition, Siearra Access Coalition...all these groups as well as several counties and county goverments as well as some state representatives (McClintock for one) are working on trying to get something done about this issue.
As far as what I'm doing? Well as much as I legally can considering who I work for.
