I hunted down there next to the Mcdonald Observatory last year and i loved it. Wind blew around 70mph and it was bone dry but i caught a lot of hogs and had a great time. It would definetly be a nice place to cat hunt too. Too bad there are not bears there anymore ( ranchers said they were all killed out years ago).

Did a couple hunts on the 06 Ranch between Ft Davis and Alpine...a few years back....saw alot of lion sign in one area along the dry washes on the east side of the ranch where more of the mule deer were found.
We did find an aoudad ewe that had been killed by a lion.
Also hunted south of Marfa in Pinto Canyon...we saw 3 lions..... 2 we think were the same cat, and figure she had some kittens in the rocks below a steep bluff, got her on the video camera..the rancher wanted us to kill her but I couldn't knowing there were likely kittens....there was a good javalina and rabbit population that year and lion sign seemed to be fairly commen.
Did see an old live trap on a peice of property close to the 06 where the rancher had caught several lions over the years using live goat kids for bait...I did not have digital camera in those days so all the photo's I have of the cats and trap are on prints.
Both areas looked like you best be prepared to hunt hard and make a few miles a horse back to catch lions...... if they got into the bluff country you may not end up with a lion when the day was done....steep and rocky.
