Bear Race on the 4th of July

Post by easttenngator »

3 of us found a track on July 4th and loaded 15 hounds in all. We had a gret start and a good race with the bear finally get the best of us and not treeing. As we looked for dogs and caught them crosing the road we found 11 so 4 are missing. They were all one persons so he said he would stay and look for them, since he lived on the same Mountain and we had traveled over to see him.

Two days later we all meet up and were talking and come to find out the four dogs that were missing were dead. Half of his pack, the only thing the 4 dogs had in common was their breed ( red bones). No 2 were the same age or found in the same areas.

And that is all I can tell you....anyone think they know what happened.
WE SURE AS HELL have no idea.

thanks in advance

were they just dead? or was there like blood anywhere or claw marks or anything? I find this kinda interesting and would like to know, myself being a redbone owner.

Poison

Post by BigGameHunter »

If there are not any physical external wound marks that would indicate a fight/fall and four dogs are dead then I think that rules out bear damage. I think it also reduces the likelihood of any health related conditions. My first impression would be poison; unintentional or intentional. Some might say that if they were poisoned then they would be together but I don’t think so. Depending on the size of the dog and the amount of poison consumed, an animal could go quite a way before being killed.

Again...just a shot in the dark.

Good answer I never thought of poisoining. Maybe they ate some Tainted meat out there and like you said, it just took different times to effect them. :?:
