David, I don't run bears but my Billy dog's sister went to WA and the guy uses her on damage bear hunts and says she's really good. A few of the Billy x Sage pups went to bear hunters and everything I've heard back is good. One went to TX and is used on hogs and the guy likes her and says she's plenty gritty. The best thing to do is ask the guys that are hunting them on bears.
Montana Red Kennels - redbones that catch game and hold it until you get there.

David, I got a pup from the first cross {Billy x Sage} and I mostly hunt bear and that pup has been on about 60 trees this year. He is only 18 mths old or so. He is not suicidal gritty but he did get holes punched in him . I'm really pleased with him.
David, good luck with your pup. Keep me in the loop on his progress. If you want to talk red dogs and bears , PM me your # and I'll call you. I don't want to take over Kevin's thread but I do think highly of Hank .(pup i got from Kevin)
Nice lion. On the suject of redbones for bear. Ibought a redbone female out of Walt EARLS dogs from montana. Hell of a lion dog and just as good of bear dog. Bread her and all the pups were the same as her. Her and one of her son were the only hounds that i have ever had that were killed by bears. All excellent tree dogs. Over the past 40+ years i have ran every breed of hound there is, curs included. Found some equal but none better.
