I just read that they are proposing to release 1000 wolves on dixie national forest, kaibab, and the az strip! just google it. we all better rally up quick because this is the first I have even heard about this. they will sneak it right past us if we're not alert! Find out what you can on this proposal and spread the word. lets shut these idiots down before they even get started with it.

This year while hunting on the kaibab a goverment trapper that i know and used to work as a wolf trapper for 25 years in the white mountains of az saw a wolf on the kaibab and reported it to the game and fish check in station and they told him he was full of it. So it might already be happening.

They are just naturally working their way back there. I know Washington and Oregon have more than the state is letting people know. Its not too far fetched to have some wolves in Utah already. They wont need to plant any because they will just natural come back there if they arent already. And to trap 1000 wolves isnt the easiest thing to do, also to release that many to an ecosystem would mean disaster for not only the ungulates but for the wolves and other predators themselves. I doubt that ecosystem coudl handle that many.

1000? That's a LOT of wolves and would cost a fortune. I'm not sure I believe that plan/ If it's a real deal, there will be a HUGE paper trail regarding interstate (or International) transport of wild species.

There are probably a handful of dispersers moving from ID MT WY into the rest of the western states. My guess is that there will be few if any wolves ever stocked again by the agencies. They are coming on their own.

This was in the opinion section, at least on the website. There is no such thing as a Mexican Gray Wolf. There are two wolf species in North America:

Gray Wolf - Canis lupus and the Red Wolf - Canis rufus

The red wolf is arguably a sub-specie of the gray that inhabits the southeastern US and Mexico. It is believed that they are a hybrid between coyotes and gray wolves and are much smaller than the gray. There are 100 in the wild and 200 in a captive breeding program, according to the FWS website.

This guy must have been talking about gray wolves, which would make the gray an invasive specie in the areas described for reintroduction. With the lowest estimate of $200,000 per wolf that would make this effort worth at the lowest $200 million and at the highest a billion. Not likely!

mack dog I hope your right. last thing we need is help getting the wolves here faster. I know it was in the opinions colum, but obviousely the guy that wrote the story heard a proposal to get him riled up in the first place. this is how utah works. they get the idea, figure out how they can do it, hold a public meeting to make you feel like they care and then. bam!!!!! it passed!!!!

There might not be a Mexican Gray Wolf, but there is a Mexican Wolf. It has been a long time since I lived in the white mountains of Arizona, so maybe some members from that part of the world that deal with them can share some insight.

Bad news when I soiled myself and went to the "sfw" meeting in spanish fork last week this guy from "biggameforever" showed a presentation on the proposed plan for this wolf transplant. Try google on that it might help. That guy has followed the wolf screwin we have all got pretty well. Just what I heard first hand. Go to your "sfw" town hall and listen for yourself Utah boys.

Not sure where these numbers are coming from, the USFWS claims there are only 200 in captive. In my opinion, I don't see the Mexican wolf causing near the problems we have up north. There aren't near as many, the population hasn't exploded like with the grays and they are smaller.

Does anyone know of any hound/Mexican wolf incidents?

i have hunted around them up here in the white mountains of az for 14 years never had any problems with them. There hand fed and raised by humans from pups there taim down here wont even run when you see them. And there numbers are falling cause there not good hunters game and fish feeds them road kill.

Wolves that can't hunt and require a lot of maintenance!! Well, that is just the type of wolf we all could handle. Keep the wolf lovers busy, and as it sounds, they may not be so big that they can wipe out a whole pack of hounds in just seconds. If these folks up here want to introduce a non-native wolf species, why don't they go with the Mexican wolf instead of these brutal bastards plaguing the North.

I would even help feed them if it gives us the ok to shoot the wolves we already have!

You guys who havn't signed onto Big Game Forever's email list need to. They do a great job getting acurate info out thats not just hipe.
Staying informed is critical on all issues that impacts our sport. Don't be to hard on state game depts, they were force feed a raw deal by the feds on this one.
The wolf counts will be low as they have to be able to prove under oath that the count is accurate. That meens the count they give is backed up with confirmed evidence.

The Mexican wolf is never going to be removed from the list as 90 persent of its range is in Mexico and out of our control. Utah needs to fight being included in Mexican Wolfs home range.
