it's so dry up here there's about two or three inches of silt on top of the roads. makes for one hell of a dusty outfit. my buddies hounds have been doing pretty good this summer. he gets credit for any bear i'll see right now.

I've been having a tough time for the last week. I can't believe these are the same dogs that caught 80% or better this spring. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Ya its like they totally went stupid over night and cant even smell there own asses. which I know isnt the case. The only bear ive heard of being treed this week were all popups, 10 minutes or less.

Well fellas I have noticed that for the last 2 summers down here in Texas since we were in a drought. This year we have had lots of rain(too much) and my hot nosed, short range, curs are striking hogs at distances I didn't think were possable.

Your dogs dont suck they just dont have the moisture right now. Moisture seems to make all the difference in the world!

Thanks for sharing

You need some of these Arizona hounds. If we get a little dew on the ground its a wet year here! :D

Dont get me wrong but in Idaho I dont want a cold nosed hound. It can make for long days of trailing and never gettin a bear jumped letalone gettin it treed. I do like cold nosed cat dogs but not a bear dog. I prefer to get a warm track and get it jumped in an hour or less. But thats just my preference. In areas where bear are more scarce i believe i would like a colder nosed dog.

You got to get up early and get them going before 8:00 and my opinion is the hotter it is the faster they will tree. You will rarely get a bear to run much in this heat. I'll take a Arizona cold nose dog any day of the year!! like I said the hotter it is the fast they tree even with a cold nose hound. Good plase to get them going is at little creeks or streems. Ware there is water you will find life.

You must have different bears down there. The bears up here don't mind running in the heat.

Thats no joke. Went sunday mornin, left the house at 4 am. Had one goin by 6 and it was already 75 degrees by the time I got it treed at 8 it was 85. He never ran though just walked around. Got to see him on the ground a few times just walkin payin no mind to the dogs. He bailed twice before he finally stayed up. And his tongue was hangin out.

Keep plugging Eric, whether north or south does not matter. When its hot and dry early morning starts are the only way to be successful like your doing. Keep plugging bud, Corey got on a walking bear today and he started at 5:30 am and grabbed up the hounds at noon.

Remember this we all hope to finish a track at a tree but its better you are out there running then sitting inside with the AC and no season
