i hunt out of rangers, normally 4.0l v6's
getting around 14mpg in the 93and 16mpg in the 2003 (22mpg hwy)
about the same mpg as a toyota, but alittle more power, and the trucks cost 1/2 the price!

But they last about half as long as a toyota  Sorry, couldn't resist, but seriously, yeah the rangers have more power than the 4 banger toys, that is for sure. Whatever rig gets you around and keeps you happy right?!

its funny every one i hunt with have toyotas, and some go for a while, and others seem to break down all the time, after a few rangers,(atleast 5 i hunted out of) they have never left me in the woods. atleast yet......plus parts that do go out seem a bit cheaper then toyotas. but theres a reason i own two ford trucks, both 100% ready to hunt. ones got to break sooner or later! :D

I owned and hunted out of two Rangers (85 and 88) and was pleased with both...other than the crappy Mitsubushi and Mazda transmissions that went out every few years, that is.

I went with a Tacoma in 02 and wouldn't dream of hunting out of anything else. Years ago, it got smashed by a tree that fell on it while I was at a hog bay, but was still tough enough to start right up, pull out from under the tree, and get my badly wounded dog to the vet in time to save his life. Though the drivetrain and frame were okay, I had to replace every piece of the body and interior, but got it running like a champ again years later.

My Tacoma gets 18 highway and 14.7 hunting.

2007 Ram 1500 4.7L 6 spd manual tranny, 14 average hunting with 30" tires, 10-11 with 35" tires, had up to 20-21 on the highway at ~62mph, 17-19 at the speed limit and empty. Drive slow and steady, and you will get better mileage... I get much less when I have to "keep up" with my hunting buddies. :)

It seems fuel mileage goes out the door once you lock it in four wheel drive. Doesnt seem to matter what your driveing. Any more I look at what vehicle has caused me the least grief and thats the winner. If I had to sell all my junky vehicles but one I would keep my dodge cummins. It has the power to pull anything reasonable. It will get good mileage on the freeway. It seats six comfortably. It has been pretty reliable for what its been put through...

I know toyota makes a good truck and I own one too. But Dodge kicks some but when it comes to towing. Plus I just dont like the idea of supporting toyota. Must be the American in me... :D
