Bad lion hunt

Don't sound right if in fact it was as you described it. If you would'nt mind, pm me with nthe name of this guy. Sounds kinda like what happened to a friend of mine from Texas. I would like to know if it is the same guy. I can put you in contact with a guide that will give you a quality hunt. He catches in the snow or dry ground.

I like Dean's article as well.

I think the two or three main points in that article that I try to get across to people are - if you want to see dogs work, and are not so concerned with killing a lion, then dry ground is a good way to go. If you want to kill a lion, the snow is probably the way to go. Also - if you think this is an "easy" hunt, then show up out of shape and go home VERY unhappy.

I have met Matt before and I know one of the guides that works for him. They seem to be good guys and catch some lions. I'll find out if there is another side to this story... or at least have them defend there self..

I'm pretty sure you weren't hunting on white sands but if you were hunting where I think you were I can see being from Ohio how you could think it was a waste of time.. but I've caught a couple of lions out there in the flats and a real nice Tom was hit by a car on the interstate there. And I know one of his guides was after a lion out there last year that was running a guys trap line for him. And as far as the Gila goes where he is, that is some of best lion country around. What were the conditions like in the Gila? I know here lately we have had some snow that melts during the day and then freezes at night.. and if your riding rough country its just flat ass dangerous..

always 2 sides to every story...having the outfitter tell his side probably won't solve anything...still 1 against the other...curious if you had to pay the full amount for this hunt despite not taking a cat...friend of mine who is very successful on lion and bear, charges a minimal daily fee to cover gas expenses, and deducts that from the hunt fee when and if a lion is taken...if no lion is taken, you are only out the daily expenses and are welcome to come and try again...might be why he has a great reputation...by the way, there are guys in n.m. that catch consistently on dry ground...not as easy as snow nor as predictable, but they do it on a regular basis...references are critical when choosing an oufitter.
