The family was at a campground in the Big Ben National Park when a young lion, in broad daylight attacked the kid while walking hand in hand with his mother. The kids dad stabbed the lion in the chest with his knife and it released the face grip and fled. The news report says the lion attacked someone else earlier that same day.

Re: Texas Child Attacked by Lion
thats one lion that needs terminated big or little male or female. Once they figure that game out they know humans are stupid easy prey.
Re: Texas Child Attacked by Lion
That's a bad deal.
Texas already clasifies lions as varmints, and there won't be any changing policies of the National Park Systems, in fact, they probably closed the park down for a while to let the nice kitty calm down.
Now if you folks that want to get lion hunting back in California would relocate that lion, as well as several dozen more just like it, to San Diego, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, and several more populated areas, you might have a snow ball's chance in h... of getting it done.

Mcbride went after the lion a day or two after the attack but didnt find the lion( lion might be dead from the stab). He could only go for one day and had to leave. Park service hired a friend of mine to come hunt the lion. I will post an update when i hear more

Shorty not the same guy. Not sure why they didnt get him since he is closer. Sent you a PM
Update: a female lion was caught by my friend. It was a short but eventful hunt where the hunter and his hounds became the hunted. I dont have all the details but sounds like he got the right lion

I wonder if the dad's stab wound
was a factor in the short chase?

Re: Texas Child Attacked by Lion
A few more details. The lion was an adult female in extremely poor physical conditon( why the poor condition wasnt determined as of yet). The lion had a wound in the chest/armpit area which could have been from the knife. Sounds like it was a flesh wound but not a bad injury. They werent for sure if it was a knife or wound from the hounds when they were fighting the lion on the ground. The lion was sent for a necropsy for to determine it was the same lion.
The story goes like this. Hes walking down the trail looking for sign in an area where the lion had been seen. He looks up to see this lion jumping out of the bushes onto about a 4-5 month old pup. About the same time the rest of the pack finds the lion and a hell of a fight breaks out. The lion gets away from the dogs and takes off carrying the pup. The pack catches the lion on the ground again, this time lion drops the pup and bays against a bluff then trees. He said the hunt lasted all of 2 minutes. Pup lived with minor injuries. After the lion was taken care of he put his dogs on the back track to see if it was the only one (other sign found made them think there might be another young lion around). He didnt find another one that day.
