Just became a Plott Owner

Post by lacientenn »

I just rescued a Plott from my work (I'm a vet technician) she is 10 years old and was going to be put down because her owners were moving to Mass. and she had glaucoma so i had her eye removed and told them id take her. I'm just curious what exactly to expect. I of course deal with dogs a great deal considering they are my occupation but I've never owned a dog like this. She seems to be a really great dog and is there any way i can find out what bloodline she is? I wasn't sure if there was any way i could tell? Any tips on these dogs would be highly appreciated. I'm super excited to bring her home next week! :D

I have had them for a little while and I like them . They seem to be very loyal as well . I cant say that they would be great pets , but by judging by the way my dogs act I think they would . I dont know how you would tell what blood line she is unless the owners might tell you were they got her . Good luck with your dog .

as far as i know the only thing the people told me was that they owned the dogs great grandparents, grandparents, parents, and then her. I really didnt get a lot of info from the people all i know is the dog was once used for hunting but they said because of her eye they quit using her. I'd like to eventually get another one and use it for coon hunting. What would be a good bloodline for me to get? I like the Plotts that have more of a coonhound look to them

First let me say welcome to the club!!!
I have two and they are great with my kids and tons of drive on game. If she was retired for the injuries sustained hunting that says alot right there. My male is Millenium Magic bred and he is hell on game, kennel quiet and lord help the fool that bothers my kids in the yard. My female is real heavily Weems bred fast grity loud and is one tough cookie same way about the kids. They wouldnt hurt anyone but they would have one hell of a headache. If you can talk to the people who had her find out what they had her on or you could end up with a bear race all night.

What is the "coon hound look" you are referring to?
