I could be way off base with this but i have seen dogs that could chew through a cable, and have never seen where a dog has chewed through a chain.

I switched to cable. I use cable stakes, and the cable is in the ground and that gets attached to the chain of the trap. No way for it to get chewed on.

If you run cacle from your trap to anchor, a lot of times the cable will kink. With this is a bear to get the cable to lay back flat in the trap bed.. I run cable stakes but j hook it to my chain....
