american cooner or full cry

Post by perky »

hey i want to subscribe to one of these magazines but i'm not sure what to get.. i've looked at full cry before and liked it but i didn't like that there was a bunch of squirell hunting stuff in there. i haven't looked at american cooner before. i would prefer the one with the most stories and doesn't put emphasis on squirell huntin. if ya can give me some pros and cons that'd be great.
thanks!

I have a subscription to american cooner. Its ok but I probably wont renew it. I was happier with my fur fish and game magazine before. Full cry didn't have alot for me either but im like you I want hunting stories not stud dog advertising and equipment every other page.

don't think I'll be renewing my subscription to Full Cry this year. too much squirrel doggin' (mixed up Cur-feist mutts being passed off at Mtn Curs...hmm) and competition hunting...hardly any stories. I could write up and submit some stories but, too busy hunting :P
get some older back issues of Full Cry! full of great info, great stories
Can't say much about American cooner, I have some old issues and it's just who won what in competition hunts from what I remember.

This months 'March' edition of full cry has a couple great stories about a ghost coon and a killer coon that trys to drown dogs in a river. I think full cry is getting the point to print more hound stuff.

the magazine won't improve if you don't tell them what you want. right now before your subscription is up, call or e-mail. tell them your plans & what they could do to keep you.

Hang in there and keep your subscription to Full Cry. I am going to hit as many field trials and water races as I can this year to write them up for Full Cry. So if you want to see your name and picture in Full Cry hit the trials and races with some winning dogs and I'll get you in. -Pete

FROM MY PERSSPECTIVE WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO SEE IN FULL CRY AND AMERICAN COONER IS DRIVEN BY THE AMOUNT OF PAID ADVERTISING THEY RECIEVE. I EXPECT THE ADVERTISING REVENUE IS DOWN SUBSTANIALLY BECAUSE OF THE INTERNET FORUMS WHICH PROVIDE FREE & IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO THE HOUND DOG FRATRUNITY. JUST LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF ADDS & CORRESPONDENCE PLACED IN JUST ONE WEEK, AND OH, IT COSTS NOTHING.

NEWS PAPERS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY HAVE BEEN HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME STAYING IN THE BLACK FOR EXACTLY THE SAME REASONS. I EXPECT FC & AC ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION.

IF WE AS A FRATURNITY WANT TO HAVE WRITTEN PUBLICATIONS WE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM THROUGH SUBSCRIPTIONS AND ADVERTISEMENTS.

Full Cry used to be a great houndsmen magazine years ago, now it's 90% squirrels and Cooner is 90% ads your best bet would be to get some old issues of Ful Cry if your looking for hound stories.

I think in full Cry most of the storys are reader submited. So if you dont like it send in a story or article.
