good? bad? normal? anyone have anything to say about this?

Post by BELLIS3 »

I have two hounds about seven months old. male and female, the female is a bluetick/black and tan cross, and the male is a walker. they are both well behaved and get along great. when I started doing drags with hotdogs i started easy and got harder and harder. my female always takes her time but never mises a spot she has a really good nose , my male always starts out with his nose on the ground them he seems to almost wind it and run to where ever i have it almost like a "catminded' dog according to some other forums I read. now im starting with scents and my female takes her sweet time and my male stops and smells just to make sure hes on track. he always beats her to it but she never misses a spot i did the drag. seems like they both have good qualitys, does anyone have any feed back for me??? any advice

What kind of feed back are you looking for? At seven moths old I would start showing them live game and throw the drags in the garbage. But I'm never use drags and start my dogs only on live game, I guess that would make my opion one sided.

But seriosly it sounds like they are ready to take to the woods and find game to trial.

You have noticed the different styles of trailing. That is a good thing, what works for you and will these dog compliment each other on a track. IT is time to hunt them. They can only learn so much from drags, some of it can be not good. Dewey

I wont keep a dog past that if its not hunting, you need to take them out and get them on some game asap.
