California Questions?
California Questions?
So come april first must hounds stay out of the woods? Any legal training area's? How about the rules on running drags through the woods?

Re: California Questions?
I may be wrong but im pretty sure they close anywhere east off the 49 to running hounds because of bear hibernation, they dont want you running bears that are getting ready to hybernate.

Re: California Questions?
most all the state is closed to having dogs out but there are some spots that you can still go and road your dogs. I am working on getting a map that shows the area's but it's kinda like pulling your own teeth. Good luck and read the reg's off the DFG websight i know it is confusing as all hell but you might be able to answer your own question.

Yeah i was hoping that someone had a simplified version of the dmv regs because thats pretty confusing but maybe if i sit down with a map and take some time it will get clearer.outlaw13 wrote:most all the state is closed to having dogs out but there are some spots that you can still go and road your dogs. Re: California Questions?
yeah it sucks. I don't understand why they don't just make a map so everyone can understand exactly where it is at no problem.

Pretty much all the mountains East of 49 are closed until general deer season opens but the valley is open year round, there are some areas in the mountains that are open you have to read though the regs and look over a map pretty closely, I did it about 10 years ago and used a hi lighter to mark it out.

thats great bowtech36 I have never seen that map before, I think what everyone is looking for is a map like that that shows the training zones

Re: California Questions?
yeah outlaw13 helped me out by sending me the link. So can everyone explain the training zones? They are area's you can train scent on, correct, not like utah where you can train on an animal?

Re: California Questions?
You don't want to be doing anything that could be construed as "hunting" (see reg's to define hunting) in the dog control zone as of the first Saturday in April.
While there is no language against running drags you would want to make darn sure that's all you end up doing...and if they find you with tracking collars on your dogs out in the woods you will have to explain what you are doing - quite likely to somone who won't believe you.

Yeah thanks looking on the map I would have to travel a ways if i want to run a drag for my dogs all the way down to the valley.
