Oregon Houndsman

Post by steeliekingfisher »

Hi, I am a new guy here, and planning on buying some dogs here soon. I have a guy from down your way, grants pass area that is selling his dogs. He has two 4 year olds and two 1 year olds. I believe his name to be Toby Blossom. He sounds like a good guy and sounds like he knows his stuff but not knowing him or his dogs, I hate to buy someone elses problems. He says he does bobcat and usually does 25 to 35 cats a year, someone that hounds that much must have met one of you :D

He also stated he sold many pups over the years, so I figure, what the heck, lets see if anyone knows him or his dogs, or maybe even bought from him before.
Take a kid out with you, you may change his/her life forever!!

About Blossom Hounds
Currently we have 4 Walker Hounds for sale.

1-four year old male, mostly white with sideways heart shaped black marking on his side. Purebred, papered bloodline is 80% Houses (Houses Lippert, Houses Clint).

1-four year old female, beautiful black, white and brown markings. She has had two litters of pups. Purebred, papered bloodline is 80% Houses and 20% Pacman.

The four year old female has had two healthy litters of pups (8 & 10 pups) and they were easily sold for $150-200 each. This is a sought after bloodline and we have never had a dog returned because it wouldn't hunt. These dogs LOVE to hunt.

2-one year old females, mostly black with some white and brown markings. Both are the pups of the four year old female that is also for sale. Purebred, papered, also Houses & Pacman bloodlines.

Excellent coon, fox and bobcat companion hunting dogs. Also cougar if it is legal in your state. Both four year olds have treed alot of game. The one year olds are just started dogs. All dogs are current with their shots.

Must sell dogs due to other family obligations. Please don't hesitate to call with any questions you have.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS ANYWHERE. IF YOU DO NOT LIVE NEAR GRANTS PASS, OREGON WE CANNOT SELL YOU A DOG. SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.

How much is he asking for the dogs? That sometimes can give ya idea on how good they are or how good the own really thinks they are. How did you hear about the dogs?

If your buying that much dog power.. I'd hop in at truck and go hunt a couple days with the guy and his dogs.

I'd guess your probably talking pretty darn good money for 4 year old finished Bobcat dogs, what's an extra 400-500 bucks gas money and hotel..And it's another excuse to go hunting...:)

His pup prices are pretty cheap for the two litters out of the female. Sought after blood usually means $350-$500 for a pup, although the tricolors are so common and watered down that could explain the low price, everybody seems to have a papered up overgrown beagle these days :D The shipping makes me question him as well, not too many guys wanna sell locally and arm all the competition with their weapons. It's not a big deal to call a dog hauler and have him come get em  Go hunt with the dogs, price doesn't mean anything on a finished dog!!! High priced adult dogs can be a POS too. Make him turn em loose alone to see if they can do it by themselves. Leashes are very rarely needed for a finished dog, 4 yrs old should be finished all around if that is what he is claiming. You have all summer to find dogs, look at a bunch so you can decide exactly what you want. Sellers can and will piss backwards on a trial too, so beware. If yer spending alot of money, get the 30 day trial in writing. Then, after you've done all that, look into getting some Plotts :D

I have hunted with Toby a half dozen times. I have hunted with the man he got at least some of his stock from hundreds of times. I am not sure if any of the dogs he is selling I know or would remember but I don't think any are old enough for me to know them as it was a while back when we hunted. I did stand under some bobcat trees with Toby. If he is still breeding the same line there are definitely some good cat dogs that are very tree minded out of the line. He seemed to be a pretty dang honest guy as well.
