Speed in hounds

[Holzy]

I was wondering if someone could put together a list of hounds from fastest to slowest.(speed while in chase). know i understand that julys and running walker are the fastest but i would like to know how the other breeds stack up(plott, b&t, bluetick, redtick, and redbone). Seeing as this is the fast form of hound hunting(to my knowledge) i figured this would the place to get the best answer. Thanks Mitch.

I think it all depends on the hounds build. Todays coonhounds are bred differently in my opinion. They are alot more narrow built. There are also many other things to factor in. Can they run a good track..have a good nose..that can determine speed.

i got a english female that is a year old and half the size of my running walkers but she can hang with them just fine. she dont have the indurance they got but when it comes to the bay up and fight she dont let her small size hold her back. got alot of grit for a dog that may weigh 35lbs if she's lucky.this is my first coon hound bred dog that i've owned and ran on yotes. i'd say by the time she hit 2 or 3 she should be a well rounded yote hound. if you want speed though i would go for a running dog like the running walkers or july hounds. i have 3 running walkers and i tell you i have heard that they dont have much grit but if a yote is dumb enough to stop in front of the ones that i have it is its last time it will see the light of day. they out right will strech a yote.

she was free. my first choice for a coon hound on yotes would have been a red bone. just like them not any other reason.

dry ground or snow ? a hound can only run as fast as his or her nose can carry them. there are great hounds in every breed, but i`ll take a hound that can run a track in any condition. weather that be a running hound or tree hound, they need to be able to do it all.

running walkers by far are faster and have more endurance but its very hard to find one with enough grit to bay a mean cayote. Crohgen bred walkers usually have lots of grit and make real good catch dogs if you can find some of that breeding.
