Thats the REAL risk when buying kibble. When the manufacturing plant buys rice from China tainted with melamine.........dogs die. No way of knowing it was the food that poisoned your best hound until your dog is dead, or nearly so.
I have the kibble on hand for occasional feeding, otherwise, it's the BARF diet for my mutts too. Better for them, and you can put exactly the ingredients that you want into the food. More work? Sure is. But I manage to find the time in my day to feed the mutts the best that I can.

Redpaw 32 power edge if the mushers love it and claim there dogs have better stamina on it then it should be great for hounds.

Lightning mix works great and does not break the bank

For those of you feeding black gold I was buying it at a feed store then found it at Bi-mart (West coast chain) for $27 for a #40 bag. A whole lot cheaper than it was at the feed store. I was paying around $20 for a #20 bags.
