I live just up the road from there. A bunch of B.S. The current fairy tale being spun by the FWP is that black bears and mountain lions are crushing elk numbers and not wolves. Montana has increases their female lion quota and are planning on opening up lion seasons in draw only areas halfway through the season if they permit holders don't go out and kill the lions on the issued tags.
I find it amazing that if a cow, horse, sheep or some other livestock is killed, most of the time they can't tell if it was a wolf kill or some other cause. But they find two stinking wolves killed and they can point the blame at lions. My guess is the wolves were killed by other wolves, at least that has been what my experience in Alaska and around here tells me. Anything out of Liz Bradley's mouth is pure pro wolf B.S.

same thing here in Wisconsin. they have placed the blame of our dwindling deer herd solely on the bears. i do agree there are too many bear but when the DNR gives out their so called data of reported deer kills, there are very few if any confirmed wolf kills. it is always a coyote or a bear. they don't realize that a bear doesn't have to run down a deer to eat something. all they have to do is go 50 yards and there is a bait stump full of good sweet candy or cinnamon rolls. they also don't realize that wolves kill deer all year long. a bear is in a den for 7-8 months. all falsified data and it should be a crime. if i lied in my job like they do i would have been fired long ago.

There was a very well documented study some years back and it opened the eyes of alot of people.
The highest mortality on elk and moose calves was due to black bear predation....the study area had a healthy population of wolves, grizzlies and some coyotes...but NO lions.
My experience which is limited is that wolves kill far more sub and adult game than they do young....lions are hard on new born game but no more so than coyotes and bears in most cases.
One of our big lions in the study killed several moose calves during the 2 yr reaserch period...saying that however it may look high but there were no bears, coyotes or other predators collared to gather data on so there is no bench mark to make a conclution if this is high in comparison to the other predators.

Lions get blamed as you say , for far more than what is accetable in "SOME" situations.
Lions have completely decimated both Rocky and Desert Bighorn sheep populations in some areas....during our 2 yr reaserch conducted in some of the better bighorn winter range in Alberta only 1 lion killed sheep...this number totaled 3 during that time period, yet many sport hunters from this area say the low sheep numbers are due to lion predation!!!

It's easy to blame a lion because most ungulate hunters hate them....yet the Bald Eagle the symbol of a Great Nation, if it were known has likely held his own at being one of the greatest predatos ever!

Wolves need to be reduced in numbers both in Canada and the US and until they are back to those numbers we had them at in the early 80's we will continue to have serious management challenges with all of the ungulate species across this continant.
