Consistently giving them attention at that tree. Weather you choose verbal or physical or both rewards, always be consistent. Also do not reward until you are 100% certain game is in the tree. I give my dogs verbal praise and pet them only if they tree. I will not pet a dog unless its opening other than a pup.

This is just my opinion, others may have other ways.

Another houndman I know, when he kills a cat takes a small chunk of cat meat and rewards them with it as well.

when training your dog to tree how long do you typically leave your dog at the tree before relieving and rewarding them? and any tips on wounded bear tracking. is there any common mistakes made that one should be aware of?

When my dogs tree, even if its a quick one I let them tree awhile before I even go get them. Then once I am there I try to stay 20 minutes or more. I will walk away I ways to see what dogs will stay and wont. I will go back and only pet the ones who stay, this is hopes to teach the others to stay better.(I don't know if that helps.) At the tree, I try not to discipline dogs if I can help it. Face barking, I use a good green switch on them. Dogs that wander at a tree, tie up asap. I am pretty new to this, so hopefully a more experienced guy will chime in.

I am a firm believer that when the "ACTION " stops the hounds lose interest after a short spell
