So I sent a FAX to all the committee members who voted "yes" on the bill, that had my own personal bill that showed how much my families beekeeping REALLY costs and explained on the phone all the numbers and how not being able to use my dogs to protect our(and others) bee yards would be extremely detrimental to our small business. I then proceeded to give them a speech on the very principles America prides itself in...entrepreneurship! I doubt it gave them any grief knowing that a single bear can costs us more than 3 months pay for renting out our bees to farmers by the damage they uphold, but they thanked me anyway for the information.. Son's of B's!

Its hard not to get emotional when speaking to these front desk people when explaining how much a farmer really struggles and when their very own states legislation passes such bills that makes it harder to keep above water.. I will see you all Monday, keep our heads up and fists tight, no backing down now, if anything we need to hype up the intensity! We have proven ten fold we maybe the "minority" of the hunting world, but we are a one hellva minority to be reckoned with!!

This was printed in the Friday Glendale News-Press, when I read it, it had a comment section I was the forth one to comment on how if this bill is passed then California would be following the same road that Oregon has gone though having to send thousands of dollar a year to kill the 500+ bear they kill now under deperdation, the 1st three comments were opposed and defending them selves with the aruements of sound science, the cost to the state and the fact that the bear population has gone up 5 fold inthe last 30+ years, when I went on this morning to see what more had been said, all 4 were gone and now they don't have a comment section. :? :? :?

Sure is funny how if things don't go there way they don't want to play anymore!

Glendale News-Press

Gatto should vote on 'hounding' bill
June 29, 2012

The California Assembly is currently considering Senate Bill 1221, legislation to outlaw the archaic and cruel practice of chasing bears and bobcats with packs of dogs. Assemblymember Mike Gatto, D-43, who represents the Burbank and Glendale areas, is in a position to make a real difference for the welfare of dogs and of wildlife.

“Hounding” is a practice where dogs outfitted with high-tech telemetry collars are released into the woods to run down bears and bobcats so that trophy hunters can easily shoot the exhausted, terrified animals off of tree limbs. During the chase, the hounds may catch and maul bear cubs, bobcats or other wild animals who get in the way. Dogs can become lost in the woods or severely injured during confrontations with wildlife.

SB 1221 will bring California in line with 14 other states that prohibit this unsporting practice, including states like Montana, which outlawed bear hounding in 1921 because it violates fair chase principles. The bill passed the Senate last month, but fell one vote short earlier this week in the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee. Assemblymember Gatto abstained. It’s time for this shameful practice to end in California.

The committee is expected to reconsider the measure on Monday, July 2. Please contact Assemblyman Gatto by calling his district office at (818) 558-3043 and urge him to take a stand for wildlife protection and against animal cruelty by voting “aye” on SB 1221.

Thanks for the info Dale, If we lose this fight this is how it will happen, by feeding the general public full of lies thru the media. I still think we need to reach out to all the sportsmen and women of the state thru the media. I've talked to several hunters I know and hardly any of them even heard of this bill, we need to let them all know what's going on and we'll gain a heck of alot more support. Mike

If it was me, and there was any possible way that I could leave. I would leave the damn state. Because it appears that that is what the politicians want, they apparently think things aren't bad enough more people need to leave. So I would just oblige them and let them wallow in their own shit!!!!

Sorry guys, Willy

I do think a lot of people think about leaving but you know houndsman they are a resilient bunch and give up isn't in there vocabulary. The fight is here now in are face and we are up for it , one of the big problems about leaving is if the fight is winnable here than stay and fight if we don't give it are best that would just give them momentum to come to the next state and try this shit, don't retreat the small guy has a fight that was brought to him so we must defend our way of life like are hounds would defend use if things go bad, you would cull a dog that retreated so at least ask that much tenacity of your self. We have waged a hell of a fight so fare and I know for a fact that its know where close to are 100% we will turn up the heat as needed. I feel the anger building with each round don't count use out we are under dogs at heart thats why most prefer the hound even over a gun or bow, man and his best friend old yeller where the red fern grows we cant for get where we come from. Thanks to all that traveled to the capitol today some as far as Arizona, one common denominator the dogs we love ,hunt, respect and would die for as they would use. Thanks again FIGHT ON

The politicians are just puppets for hsus I really think some don't even see past the money that hsus throws at them. This battle is so emotionally draining if we left for more politicly friendly states in the middle of a fight that can be won and found are selves in the same predicament there after a year or too what then ? what is going to happen is a influx of houndsman in one state if we retreat that's what they want use to leave when and if that time comes Im sure a lot will I'm just saying for me its not yet. Out side looking in its easy to say just leave but just thank what you are saying put your self in are shoes house, job, kids, some are divorced with visitation every to weeks with there kids some are to old to move and as most if you hunt a place your great grandfather hunted and granddad and dad it has emotional ties that run deep I may leave just not yet politicians come and go they change there views like the wind it may or may not go are way but I thank most here are in it to win.

MY QUOTE:If it was me, and there was any possible way that I could leave.

Mark,

I don't think anybody on here would want you to choose the hounds over your family. At least not me! Although some of us may get a little sharp with our words. I think it is just out of frustration with politicians that aren't worth a shit. And you are 100% right, they come and go. And I guess apparently they were not listening in 2010. And I guess we will get an opportunity to pound our message home in 2012!! Hopefully we can make it clear that they work for the people.

Take care, Willy

You may be missing my point the bottom line is we have lived and hunted here for ever so its not so easy to just pack up. Another thing if we did move and this happened in another place which it will then we have to fight any how its much sweeter to beat a liberal in a liberal state if you know what I mean. It's not over not even close, I do thank its winnable with the amount of people we have putting a lot of presser on them. We do thank every one from all over the nation for there support and you never know we may be sharing the same woods sooner than we think

Since the vote I haven't recieved an update from CHC. Usually there has been an email, Facebook update or other info in regards to this bill every step of the way. Irv? Josh? Any words? Something?

Irv who usually does most of the e-mails, unfortunately had a death in the family. And had to go back home to Virginia. California houndsmen send prayers and condolences.
