Shut down before I even got to start

Post by easttntrapper »

I guess bobcats are out of the picture now. As of 8-1-12 hunting bobcats with hounds on the federal lands around the house is now banned. With our short bear season it hardly seems worth all the money invested to run just bear.

Trapper,

was this something that the antis snuck in without anybody knowing. Or was this a fish and game decision due to biologists doing studies.

If it was a fish and game decision, and no studies were done. I guess we're going to have to watch for antis infiltrating our forest service positions, and fish and game positions. Again!!!!! If we don't get all big corporations, and sportsmen and fishermen from every walk of life to hold hands on this problem. It will hunt us all down one by one.

Again thank you for your service, and hopefully for the time being you will be able to coon hunt and bear hunt for enjoyment temporarily.

Good luck and take care, Willy

Trapper,
I am on the same page as Slow, was this due to environmental studies? Or was it poorly written policies by a agency that is causing this closure?

I havent recieved a reason why yet. But I have a feeling that it is for the same reasons my county has a ban on fox hunting. All political. I was told by the TWRA that there was no biological reason for not hunting the foxes. I have a feeling it was snuck in. They been giving the hound hunters here in TN a hard time for alittle while.

Well after a few phone calls I was told that the decision was made by the forestry service and that they just didnt want bobcats and coyotes run with hounds. Guess NC nonresident licenses will be added to this years costs.

Guess the forest lands are no longer owned by the public. These people need to wake up and realize they work for us and its not their own private forest!

MS has the same problem at times of the year!

Louisiana's Kisatchie NF had a Supervisor who wanted to close that Forest to Hound Running. The locals and Houdsmen State wide got organized, brought the State Politicians into the fray including the Governor and got the Regulation overturned and the Liberal Lady Supervisor a new job in another Forest!

NC has some good hunting country and good Hunters/Houndsmen!

Good Luck!

WORST PART ABOUT NC NOW IS HOW HIGH THEY WENT ON THERE FEES TO HUNT BEAR FOR PEOPLE IN ADJOINING STATES. ITS ALMOST 400 DOLLARS TO GET TOT BEAR. ITS A 110 DOLLARS JUST FOR ME TO BUY A LISENCES TO GO COON HUNTING IN NC. I GUESS THATS THE TO TREAT NIEGHBORS

Here in NC we have what we call reciprocal liscenses. NC is good to us, we have liberal seasons. Little short on land now days but typically within an hour of most of us we can find room on the mountain to breathe a little. What that reciprocal liscense means for you folks in adjoining states (SC, Virginia, Tenn , GA & others within the agreement/compact) is your liscense fees are a direct result of your own states conservative seasons instead of liberal seasons as it is here in NC. Example--take the cost of a nonres. Tenn liscense for me, break that down into the two weeks available to use that liscense, take that number & multiply it by amount of days available in NC & you'll be pretty close to the fees you would pay to come from Tenn to NC. Hope that makes sense. Its not NC being bad neighbors at all. In fact we are basically pressuring the states in the compact to mimic or mirror NC's liberal seasons & many opportunities. I understand Tenn has added two weeks this year to their december bear hunt. If so then a nonresident liscense for a Tennessean should go down for them at that time. All states listed above or on the compact pay different fees based on the opportunities allowed to NC residents in the other states within the compact. The compact also means you can no longer go to another state within the compact to forget who you are & break laws anymore. This used to be a problem. Go out of state raise hell till your in trouble then don't go back type of mentality. You can come here & potentially lose your liscense here & at home or both, now. Same for us that venture to travel out of state. Called the compact. Hope that makes sense. Carry on.

Got plenty of room in Nc for cat chasers as most are bear hunters who turn to hogs after the 2 nd season starts... John
